Watch out, world: Americans are saving again

I tend to agree. I think it's at least 12-18 months before there is ANY signs of stability in the job market. I am hearing and seeing things that I've never experienced in my lifetime (I'm 34). People are terrified right now and I'm starting to see frugality is coming back en vogue. No...

Watch out, world: Americans are saving again

His numbers might be way off, but the point remains, that there has been a paradigm shift in the US and the entire Western world. People are for the first time in a long while, scared as hell about their jobs, the economy and their future. That results in more savings which equals less...

Don't you know? It's "Climate Change" now. That way these morons are right no matter what happens in the weather. Cold = climate change Warm = climate change Dry = climate change Wet = climate change Tornados = climate change Hurricane = climate change It's the perfect because you...

Massive Manipulation Of Food Prices Alleged Given Steep Drop In Price of Commodities

Ya, I can count on both hands how many lays chips are in a $2.99/bag. It's rediculous. A while back, I saw that one thing that Wal-Mart was encouraging companies to do, was to decrease their packaging, in order to bring down packaging and transport costs. Their incentive was that if you...

real "miracle" stories of growing a "micro/mini" FX account...you have one?

There is no doubt in my mind that I make better decisions when I'm not over leveraged. I agree that $2,500 is way too low per contract in order to make sound trades

    Slave Journals

hey dipshit, it's not the goverment's fault that you ran up $200k of debt. You should have picked a school that you could afford without loans, or picked a major that would allow you to make more than minimum wage. Let me guess, you're a music history major or something stupid like that???

Maybe it's a quadrillion. Or maybe $100 quadrillion. Or maybe a googolplex?!?!??!

    Why don't Americans save?

Not trying to be a prick or the Grammar Police because I hate that, but for future reference it is actually "intents and purposes", not "intensive purposes"

    Why don't Americans save?

Yes, because all of the other religions do so well comparitively to Christians in regards to economics. This must be true. Great point, with tons of factual information to back it up!!!!!!!

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

I agree that it's way too early to hit the panic button on this thing, although worthy of our attention. So far, Barack has shown himself smart enough and has been fairly centrist in his appointments. I seriously doubt he would do this, but you never know.

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

No shit. What's the point of trying to tax the little guy? That is a drop in the bucket and would eliminate the retail trader completely, thereby obsoleting itself.

If the "Trading Tax" is Passed

Given that "worst case" scenario, there would be very few options available, in my opinion. Buy and hold would be the only way to make a positive return for the vast majority of traders I guess you'd just have to turn into an investor with the goal of beating the market.

If the "Trading Tax" is Passed

There is no way of fully answering that question, until the details of such a plan would become more available. Would it affect futures? Would it affect options? Would it affect foreign stocks, futures, etc. Could you trade foreign trading vehicles through a domestic broker? Forex...

    Why don't Americans save?

Why do you constantly focus on "why you can't" instead of "what you can"? Think about that for a while. Instead of chosing pizza delivery, why don't you chose something that is more highly skilled, compensated, sought after? I could go out and find 3+ pizza delivery jobs today, if I...

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

You got that right. Maybe Obama and Hillary's ties to NY and IL will keep this thing from happening.

    Firing Freeze

Also, your example of water and Michigan/Saudi Arabia is flawed. Demand for water is not the same in those places due to the scarcity and therefore price. Very few in SA would water their lawn to keep grass/hedges green, whereas in Michigan, this is done all summer long. The desire for water...

    Firing Freeze

Ok, let's move past the words s&d, as you're mainly talking about essential commodities and certainly these are going to be purchased above all else. People have to buy certain things, so they will go to extreme price levels to continue purchasing them. But the US economy is not built on...

What we will replace Iraq war with? (Keynesianism)

As someone else said, there is no free lunch. Someone pays for it, regardless. The question is, what does the goverment do (other than the Military) that yields better efficiency than the private sector? Socialized health care = 1. much more money being spent (you and I pay for it...

How can we have 30yr TBills at <3%

Bills, bonds, you know what he meant. As to the question, for now, there is no inflation, but rather deflation. The Fed does have mechanisms for soaking up liquidity if inflation rears it's head, although I suspect that they ultimately want inflation and a weaker currency. I agree...
