    Any thoughts on this article?

I've thought about it more and it seems that Taleb and Neiderhoffer are each wedded to their beliefs in a very dogmatic way. Each holding the opposing view. Each believing that they are 'right'. As Taleb whittles down his capital he is also reducing his ability to earn a return. I wonder if...

    Any thoughts on this article?

Thanks for posting this article...it was a bit pretentious and wordy but still good. Taleb is definitely a force to be reckoned with. I recently read his book 'Fooled by Randomness' and must say that he whetted my appetite for philosophy and the arts.

    Funding a hedge fund...

P2: You have a lot to learn about hedge funds from your own admissions. They really are sophisticated ways of structuring a pool of funds. I would not advise you to take step into anything that you are not totally familiar with. Would you ever trade that way? Why don't you take the time to...

    Funding a hedge fund...

If there ever was a doubt that Pitt was in the pockets of Wall Street, he has helped that evaporate with this silly endeavour. Rather than using the limited SEC resources to go after the real crooks that are bilking millions of Americans everyday he is going to use the possibility that a...

Zone Alarm vs. Sygate Personal Firewall

lippi, go to grc.com (shieldsup!) and give outpost a spin and let us know how it did. I'm curious to see how it stacks up against ZA in its stealth abilities as well as its leakproofness (there is a test on grc.com called leak test you will have to try also for this). Thanks.

    best strategy for small accounts?

Aaron, what you have to keep in mind then is that dcb are the by product of a severe bear market + accounting shenanigans. How long will it continue? Who knows! In other words this is environment specific, just as breakouts were the place to be in 98-99. But just don't buy into the strategy...

    best strategy for small accounts?

Janitor, first, what's a DCB? second, part of me wants to congradulate you on the recent performance, but part of me also wants to give you a friendly warning that trading with such risk management tolerances can be hazardous to your account's future. What is truly paramount here is...

MER fined 100million-postage cost last year 349 million

trdmac, totally agree with you. There is a definite lopsidedness to the SEC. They stomp all over the smallest infraction if it is committed by a nobody but they poo-pooh the biggest scam in history. I think it is obvious that the fox is guarding the henhouse. The SEC is owned and run by...

    Fear/greed rears it's ugly head

aura, Glad that it worked out in the end. But I'm curious, why didn't you have a game plan going into this trade? If you enter any trade with a plan (how you will react to different outcomes) then you are basically set. No worries, just execute your plan.

    Your very first trade

1996 NRGN As I recall there was a biotech bull market and I picked it out from a Barron's article featuring a hedge fund specializing in the sector. I made money....which is a double edged sword. On one hand I was hooked. On the other hand, I thought: "PFfff! This is easy!?!" :D (sigh)...

If NYC is 'incapacitated ... ???

This reminds me of a conversation Jean Chretien (the Canadian prime minister) had with a bunch of reporters who were really hasseling him with what if questions. He lost it and said: "If, if, IF !! If my grandmader had wheels, she'd be a bus!" (imagine this said in a Quebec French accent)

    Bankruptcy Plays

Vishnu, it seems that you have done your homework. If as you say, the company is bound by a legal responsability to pay the dividend, then it is worthy of the risk.

    Trading Journal - May

Seanote, just wondering why you are holding HAND when it did so poorly in the past week's rocket ride? almost all the turkeys went for a brief flyby but not HAND. Doesn't that foretell of major weakness? (I'm assuming that you are still holding HAND...if not I apologize- I don't read your...

    Bankruptcy Plays

only one hitch there....if you are counting on that dividend for the profit (since it is a neutral position) then you have to ask yourself, why would a company pay a dividend when they are bankrupt or near bankrupt? If the board follows any logic whatsoever they would preserve cash rather than...
