Commissio, I would have to agree. For someone to make it to a degree that Neiderhoffer had (mansion, art, connections, etc.) and then to not protect it shows that he didn't belong there in the first place.

Does Realmoney.com make you any money?

vhen, glad you brought up Alsin. Yes, he is a performer. I had forgotten about him. But he can only make you money if you are a long term holder. I would advise a tighter stop loss than he uses also! (some of his previous picks have lost 20-40%)

Does Realmoney.com make you any money?

I think you have to approach RM very selectively. Herb Greenberg is on top of his game as usual. Helene Meisler is ok, she can provide some interesting technical insight. Cramer, you better just ignore or read when you have nothing better to do. He just blabbers on about anything and...

    Off shore trading

Haas, it isn't that simple. Soros would never simply put his personal money into a fund. There are legal structures (corporation, LLC, trust, etc.) that would be involved. In anycase, I read the IBD article and it does say that this is the key. That if you do not repatriate the funds you do...

    IB News

I don't get it. In executions we are give fractional results. So if it can be an output of their system (BUY confirm 10.0098) then why can't it be the input?

    Off shore trading

P2: I'm not an expert on tax laws but I've heard that until he repatriates the funds he won't have to pay tax on them. No doubt Soros and his like have the absolute best legal advice on earth. So if he is doing it, there must be a way.

For a great example of how to sell volatility check this out: http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3382&perpage=6&pagenumber=1 The lesson for me was how flexible Tony was in closing the position once the risk/reward shifted. My point again, is that selling vs. buying...

    Bypassing Wall St.

The point is if these giants take their trading somewhere that is only accessible to them and their peers, then will we have a market in the near future where it is fragmented along the lines of size? How likely is that?

    Funding a hedge fund...

P2: Another source of funding (which I don't think has been mentioned yet) are other hedge funds. It is common practice for a medium-large hedge fund to farm out chunks of their capital to start ups. I don't know how easy it would be to get in to see them but at least they would be able to...

    TradeStation Securities announces new commissions

Here's it is: "If trading exceeds certain thresholds, trading surcharges will apply to equity and option transactions." I love how vague it is! That language is brought to you by a $750/hr lawyer.

    How's this for a POS?

chasinfla, My post was tongue in cheek; hope you didn't take it seriously. Mike Swanson is just bringing a pos to the attention of others. Sure he has something to gain by it tanking, but its not a sure thing it will. He has a great track record both in trading the markets in general and in...

A covered call strategy with no stop loss is dangerous. But where (except for gaps) is the risk when you have an exit strategy just in case? Also selling volatility does not mean that you are totally open to infinite (theoretically) risk/damage. By using a spread you can enter a risk/reward...

    TradeStation Securities announces new commissions

c'mon! think about it for a minute! There is no way SSB will be giving so much for a min of $750. There was some such offer made in Canada by a major broker (HSBC, ML, I don't remember) and they had a tiny asterix added.....which then went on to explain in excrutiatingly small font that...

    Bypassing Wall St.

Just read this article from IHT: http://www.iht.com/articles/59503.html I know that as short term traders we love to refer to mutual fund and pension fund traders as retarded elephants but does this mean that soon we won't be able to take advantage of their rampages?

The chart that shows a coin toss reminds me of a very important point I read from Taleb's book: Random does not mean equiprobable.
