American Oil and the Third World

I love this quote from the article: "State Department spokesman Tom Casey said: "The government of Venezuela, like any other government, has the right to make these kinds of decisions to change ownership rules. We want to see them meet their international commitments in terms of providing...

    Is IB safe

This one takes the cake. Trash IB without even a single detail, other than the fact that it is about a wire. LOL. Talk about a serious lack of integrity. By the way, I've been successfully wiring money in and out of IB now for 6-7 years I guess. OldTrader

    IB's "Amount Available for Withdrawal"

What you seem to be implying here is that there is something wrong with IB's accounting. Doubtful. What's more likely is that you don't know the rules, and haven't told us everything. One possibility is that you have simply used all your funds in some manner in the account, and have no...

    Is Cable internet buffered?

Personally I prefer a wired router. Don't know if that has anything to do with your difficulties though. OldTrader

Does anyone here use IB data to trade index futures using very short-term charts?

Yes, you should be able to change pages without refreshing. I don't use the preserve existing bars tab, although maybe that's an advantage. Ensign originally told me to uncheck the auto refresh. OldTrader

Does anyone here use IB data to trade index futures using very short-term charts?

First, I have IB selected as my refresh source. The problem with using DTN is that it is delayed.....seems like it's 10-15 minutes. So using DTN to refresh intraday doesn't work. I don't "auto-refresh" charts. My opinion is that the data as it comes from IB is more accurate than the...

Sorry IB, your customer service is a joke

When you add the symbol, did you look at the screen that comes up with various options like SMART, ARCA, ISLAND, NYSE, etc.? You add the ticker, hit OK, select stock, and a page called contract selection comes up with all the possibilities on it. I don't know if that's in the users manual...

Sorry IB, your customer service is a joke

    1. IB has stated numerous times NOT to email them. Guess you missed that huh? 2. You picked "futures", when the problem seems to be connection related. There was no option for "connection"? 3. Can't help you here...never sent one. But I guess you missed the one avenue I have used...

    What's this?

I can only assume that since you are wondering if this is a "scam", that you are incapable of reading. Try reading it real slow, once more. It explains everything you want to know. OldTrader

IBKR Market Cap at 10.5 BLN ?!

    New disclaimer from IB

Say Bell, perhaps you could direct us to a firm who has a "reasonable" customers agreement? Frankly, I don't think you can...I've personally never seen one. OldTrader

    New disclaimer from IB

I doubt you'll see any modification. I think this attempt to sidestep any and all liability is standard fare. What is new is the clause that puts a dollar amount on their liability (even though they have none...:) ). My opinion is that this clause (or any of the others for that matter) does...

    New disclaimer from IB

As I read paragraph 27, the paragraph in question, IB is liable for nothing...but in the event they are ever found liable, they are only liable to the extent of 6 months of commissions. In other words, you'll be lucky to get 6 months of commissions since the agreement states they are liable...

    How about DR THARP

I'm saying that it would be optimal to leave the entire position on, as opposed to selling half at some pre-determined target. OK, so if you have just sold half, and it goes back down, your performance on that particular trade relative to holding the position will be better. On the other...

Do As I Say, Not As I Do

It was before S&P's and most options....very true. But your description of Kroll really doesn't fit HIS description of his trades. Rather, if I were to characterize his description of his trades, it would be that he was more of a long term type of trader, sitting with his position. One...

Do As I Say, Not As I Do

According to my copy of "The Professional Commodity Trader" by Stanley Kroll, he took $664.379 in 1971 to $2,985,138 in 1973. Much of this was managed money, but he took his own account beginning in July 1971 with $18,000 to $730,789 in September, 1973, a gain of 1,634% annualized (a gain many...

    How about DR THARP

Actually I don't think that's his argument at all. Let's say you hold two contracts. You're saying sell one at a predetermined spot. That way if it goes back down you have something in your pocket. The problem comes in when it doesn't go back down. Instead, it goes way up. You're way...

CNBC stock picking show defrauded by contestants

I have no doubt that CNBC attempted to put on a "fair contest". But whatever that "fair contest" was about, it was not about stock picking. Rather, it was about setting up multiple accounts so that one could pick various risky stocks, swing for the fences, and thereby luck out in one of your...
