Sentinel Management Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

When I held T-Bills I held them in a futures account and used it for margin of futures positions. I wasn't referring to IB. It used to be that some firms allowed T-Bill purchase of $10K minimum, $5K increments. Don't know whether that is still the case or not. OldTrader

Sentinel Management Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

No, I didn't imply this. You can buy T-Bills at IB, but in $1mm amounts. I would assume that rules out a few elitetraders. OldTrader

Sentinel Management Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

Hopefully you and Pabst have held your "savings" in a separate account so that you may fund your new account if it should become necessary. LOL. On the other hand, you would think it might be important to you and Pabst to also protect all those profits you guys made in the 2-3...

Sentinel Management Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

No, that's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying that intraday IB doesn't move your margin into the futures account. This doesn't happen until the end of the day. So therefore, whatever margin you are using is in effect insured by SIPC, because it is all held in the securities account until...

Sentinel Management Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

This simply draws you to the riskiest FCMs, insuring that whatever money you use for margin is always at maximum risk. LOL. Why not study the policies/practices and financial statements of the firm(s) you use? For instance, IB keeps excess funds in a securities account, insured by SIPC up...

How many ET bears have made Money?

I wouldn't have described myself as a "housing bull".....but hey, I do own quite a bit of rental real estate, so make of that what you will. I didn't buy my real estate last year, or even the last few years. Some of it I've owned for 15-20 years. I plan to continue to hold it, it pays a...

    Money Market Funds Losing Money???

Money market funds are offered by prospectus, and this is in fact one of the risks. Never heard of a money market fund referred to as a "savings account", although people might have used them as such. OldTrader

    Bye-Bye IB, Hello Open ECry?

I'd never trade at a firm that had "cry" in their name. LOL. OldTrader

The Legal Dilemma with these prop firms

You know, the truth is I probably shouldn't post in this thread, because I've never been part of a prop firm, and never seen one of their contracts. That said, I've been around the business world for quite a while, so I thought I would offer a few observations: First, lawyers are notorious...

    IB intraday margin requirements changed.

AAA: An overnight hold does have to have maintenance margin. But the way IB handles it is that during the day your account reverts to day trade margins. If you're an overnight trader you would need $3500 initial margin, but as you put the trade on IB is only going to require the day...

    IB intraday margin requirements changed.

I'm completely relaxed. LOL. I just don't have alot of tolerance for your kind of stupidity. Let me give you an example: overnight margin requires $3500 initial margin on the ES, $2800 maintenance. So to put a new swing trade position on in the ES you would need MORE than the new intraday...

    IB intraday margin requirements changed.

Note: I said people that trade 100 lots with $1750 each margin. OldTrader

    IB intraday margin requirements changed.

You only need twice the account if you were using $1750 margin. I don't know anyone trading 100 lots with $1750 per....do you? OldTrader

    IB intraday margin requirements changed.

You and droskill need to learn how to read. This applies to INTRADAY margins, not overnight margin. And by the way, they don't need to give you "notice"....they need to protect themselves from potential risk in a highly volatile climate. OldTrader

    IB intraday margin requirements changed.

I'd say this move was to protect IB. Anyone trying to trade the ES right now with $1750, the old margin, is an accident waiting to happen. I don't see this affecting volume. The vast majority of the players are using well in excess of this number for margin. OldTrader

Time to go long again, S&P target=1572

I'd question your point (2). Actually, I think most of the technical evidence right now is negative...therefore, probabilities and logic (if you're using technical evidence) would favor downside. What is "favorable" is all the myriad of oversold indicators. But let me just point out, that...

    Nymex Down?

The close electronic trading for 45 minutes every day. Got nothing to do with IB. CL is trading again. Not sure when ICE starts back up. OldTrader

    Nymex Down?

Not sure what you mean by "last day swap". ICE offers a cash settled future on West Texas Intermediate, symbol WTI, 1000 barrel contract. Trades pretty much tick for tick with CL. OldTrader
