    Video Card Plan Fails

Let's set aside the cost question for a second. This computer came with a 290 x16. So given that, would you recommend getting a 285 to run my other two monitors? If so, would the only factor in your decision be the cost? Thanks for the answer...I'm just trying to learn here. OldTrader

    Video Card Plan Fails

Yeah, they claimed that wouldn't run 4 monitors, that it's actually 1 card with some type of toggle setup. He was kinda vague. LOL. OldTrader

    Video Card Plan Fails

I just have the 290 PCIe x16. It runs two monitors. I told Dell that I wanted to run 4 monitors. At the time I asked them if they could sell me another 290 x16 card and install it for me. They declined. I also asked if they could sell me the 290 x1. They said they didn't handle it. What...

    Video Card Plan Fails

Nothing covering 1/2 of the card. Aside from whether the cards are overkill, is there any reason that an additional 290 PCIe x16 would be a problem or conflict? That would give me 2-290 cards, each in a PCIe x16 slot. OldTrader

    Video Card Plan Fails

Power supply is 525W, should be more than adequate for what I'm running. Those enclosures are about 1/4"x1/4"x1/4", with an opening you can see copper through. There's two of them on the back of the card. I don't really see anything that looks like a fan though. So maybe the CPU fan kicks on...

    Video Card Plan Fails

Yes, I got the 440 from Dell. It was what Dell recommended to me...ie the rep consulted with a tech and that's what they came up with. The packing slip by the way describes this as a NVS 440 PCIe x1. I installed it in the x16 slot. Frankly, I thought originally I had a x16 card. But there...

    Video Card Plan Fails

I read that link regarding the card comparisons myself, and wondered about the term "passive". Perhaps I made an unwarranted assumption. Let's just put it this way. When I have the computer on and the 290 card installed, it's extremely quiet. When I installed the 440 there was a very loud...

    Video Card Plan Fails

OK, my plan was to buy a Dell T3400 computer with a nVidia Quadro NVS 290 PCIe x16 video card installed in it (which will support 2 monitors). The computer has 6 slots available, 2 PCIe x16 slots, 1 PCIe x8 slot wired as x4, and 3 PCI 32bit/33MHZ slot with support for 5v cards. My plan was...

My understanding is that Raid1 slows the computer down, although I like the idea of a backup on the 2nd hard drive. OldTrader

    Multi Monitor Video Card

Now you tell me....I just paid $300+ to Dell for a new 440. I always like to pay top dollar! LOL. So far I don't think I get a check. But I'm rooting for the democrats to "include" me. I'll definitely spend it. Anything to do my part for the economy. LOL. OldTrader

    Multi Monitor Video Card

Just to update, it turns out that the Dual 256MB PCIe x16 Nvidia NVS 290 option that you can check in their online form does not refer to 2 cards. I called their rep, who gave me a rather convoluted explanation, but it is not 2 cards, it operates if I understood correctly with some type of...

    Multi Monitor Video Card

Try as I might, I am stymied at attempting to order this online. LOL! No wonder Dell is trading near it's lows. First, there doesn't appear to be a way to say "give me 2 video cards" on their regular online order form. If you try to order it as an accessory, the card does not show anywhere...

    Multi Monitor Video Card

I took a look at the tech specifications on the T3400. Here's what they said about video card slots: Slots 2 PCI-e x16 graphics slots 1 PCI-e x8 slot wired as x4 3 PCI 32bit/33MHz slot with support for 5v cards So in the case of the T3400 it looks to me like you're right, using 2...
