IB will eliminate intraday margin reductions. Commencing at 12:00 EST today

Close. I'd say one way to determine whether you are gambling or trading is correlated to the amount of money used. But there are other ways to gamble. OldTrader

IB will eliminate intraday margin reductions. Commencing at 12:00 EST today

Let me go back over what you evidently missed when you read my post. No one running a business levers it up such that extreme volatility would put him out of business. Read that line two or three times. So if you're counting on $2250 margin to trade the ES, or $500, or whatever, it's not a...

IB will eliminate intraday margin reductions. Commencing at 12:00 EST today

As a business, I'd hate to have myself levered up so that the first volatile thing that happens I'm out of business. But let's not blame IB for protecting their business just because you and others want to roll the dice. OldTrader

IB will eliminate intraday margin reductions. Commencing at 12:00 EST today

Right...earlier this year IB went to no intraday margins as well, when the Vix was up here and higher. Where were you? Trading 3 lots with under $10K is the route to blowing your account up. I'd cut your size back to a one lot permanentlly. That said, you're the guy IB is afraid of here...

Jim Bunning tore Bernanke a new one and now is doing the same to Paulson!

Is there some reason this is in the trading forum? Politics and religion is where it belongs. OldTrader

As of this AM, the Vix was double what it was in May. Open your eyes up. OldTrader

Exactly....and I approve too by the way. Anyone who is trading on the edge with intraday margins needs to have their head examined. OldTrader

    Worst TWS Yet?

I got that PnL column added as well. I just went to "configure" and removed it from my layout. It doesn't add it after it is reconfigured. I didn't notice the trade windown thing either. Aside from that, this is day 2 of using 885. It seems to be working smoothly. OldTrader

What Is It with Republicans and Bank Failures?

Actually your information about mortgages is wrong, and inadequate. But the point here was not to determine what you knew about mortgages. You made the point above. The banking business is regulated by a variety of government agencies. As you say....where were they? But certainly, there...

What Is It with Republicans and Bank Failures?

You don't think these have gone on for years? I sold houses to buyers with "liar loans" as they are now called back in the early 90s. They weren't called "liar loans" back then. OldTrader

Is Jim Rogers still long Airlines?

Ok, thanks for the link. Very complete. I stand corrected on the airline stock thing. OldTrader

    Worst TWS Yet?

I downloaded 885.2 this AM. I noticed the version loaded on to my first monitor rather than monitor 3 where I usually have it. So I just moved it. I haven't logged back out to see if it stays put. But whether it does or not really doesn't bother me particularly, I don't use it during the...

What Is It with Republicans and Bank Failures?

These types of loans have gone on for years....they didn't happen yesterday. Bank regulators were aware of them. They just didn't think they were a problem. Yet, you seem to believe that more regulators who didn't think there was a problem with the loan type, will solve any future problems...

Is Jim Rogers still long Airlines?

OK, let's hope these guys have it right. Because for the last year I have seen quotes on ET regarding Rogers and "airlines", referring to stocks rather than bonds. The initial recommendation was bonds. I note this link didn't quote anything by Rogers saying he was in "airline stocks"...

What Is It with Republicans and Bank Failures?

An unregulated bank is dangerous? They can't be trusted to make sound lending decisions? Yet banks are amongst the most regulated of institutions. LOL. Perhaps what you should have said is that regulated banks can't be trusted to make sound lending decisions. Or perhaps you could...

    Paradox of value investing

No you interpreted my statements incorrectly. I said I thought the stock was a value at 40. So when it trades I 40 I'm willing to BUY it. At 41, I'm not willing to buy it. But I am willing to HOLD it if my cost is 40. If the stock trades at 41, my cost is still 40. Nothing changes the...

    Paradox of value investing

By the way, I'm what I would call a value investor in real estate. I only buy real estate based on how big a discount it is to what I determine to be fair market value. Once I have determined fair market value, I then calculate a maximum price I would be will to pay for a property. I'm not...

    Paradox of value investing

Cutten: I don't think you're getting it. If I'm a value investor, and if I think a stock is a buy at 40, I'm not willing to pay 41. What is paradoxical about that? Why does the fact that I'm not willing to pay 41, mean I have to sell it at 41 if I just bought it at 40? Assume that I...

Is Jim Rogers still long Airlines?

Rogers is long airline BONDS, not airline stock. Maybe you guys will get this straight this time around. OldTrader
