Fibonacci works due to self fufilling prophecy or becuz 618 is embeded in humans?

Depends on how Fibs are applied - I find them very useful when looking at the larger swings with stocks and indexes. I find that the measured moves combined with Fibs & using volume to confirm the turns provides incredibly good entry/exit points. Risking 45 cents to make $7 per share makes for...

Scalpers not using stop orders - loss of connectivity

You were 'all in' on 9-11 lol. I bet your ass twitched a bit. Not at all - the only positions remaining were long a few oil stocks which was going up in the futures market. That's the whole point - once the bracket order (stop loss + profit target) is placed I am fairly detached to the trade...

Low risk strategies with moderate returns

Just think about being a fanatic about capital preservation as the ultimate priority - that doesn't mean you shouldn't put the money to work in the markets. People with larger accounts may choose to put some of the capital to work with a managed futures/commodities (CTA) fund(s) with proven...

Scalpers not using stop orders - loss of connectivity

Makes sense to have a stop loss trading any time frame - even if you are a DOM trader just in case something unexpected happens. I was all in on 911 and left the day with a profit, thanks to my stops. It was the single largest Dow one day plunge in history. The market was closed the following...

Scalpers not using stop orders - loss of connectivity

Not having a stop is like not using a condom on some drunken fling and deceiving yourself that you just pull out at the right time - it is a recipe for disaster. Most people that advocate not using stops seem to vanish from forums during those huge volatility spikes. DOM/click traders, yea I...

Kelly Criterion & Risk Of Ruin As Risk Management Tool

Yea I used to run at 25% which maxes the gains but trimmed down just recently after I read this from Ed Thorpe - not willing to go down to %12.5 like he suggested but than again he has a huge amount of capital to deal with. Are you layering in to a position or going all in at once? if you...

Kelly Criterion & Risk Of Ruin As Risk Management Tool

Anyone uses Kelly Criterion? Yes - I use my version of it modified for trading equities & ETFs as opposed to gambling which it was intended for. Max position size is 20% of capital (no margin loans!). I break each position into 4 separate trades of 5% of capital - layering in - adding only to...

Can Anyone Be Successful In Trading.... With Only About 50% Win-Loss Rate?

Can Anyone Become Ever So Slightly Successful In Trading With Only About 40% Win-Loss Rate? Trading is all about learning to lose which goes counter to human psychology. Every aspiring traders wants to believe there is a gentle easy way to make it unscaved in a very tough arena with few...

Am I ready to go live?

Making a living trading futures with an account 10-20 times larger than $25k is hard enough, even when you have decades of trading experience. Be aware that aspiring traders never expect how much $ and time it takes to hit a sustainable stride. Some profits early on does not mean that you will...

Is it easier to make consistent profits with forex than stocks?

For U.S IB customers you have to have a $10M account to trade leveraged FX. I am able to trade with them because I use risk mgmt I don't need any leverage.

    Hard Stops vs Mental Stops

Back when stops were posted at the exchanges the market makers could see exactly were they were and the sizes - this made stops very vulnerable to stop gunning & why a 'mental stop' was endorsed in many books back than. These days the stops are either on your brokers server or on your computer...

    Oanda's possible spot market share.

Just to put it in perspective - If you did have quotes to all the inter-banks it would move so fast your computer would probably catch on fire. Oanda time & sales shows huge size streaming, however this is only a grain of sand on the beach in the huge Forex global markets.

Is it easier to make consistent profits with forex than stocks?

In the forex world, there is no bear or bull market. What charts are you looking at? Of course there are bull & bear markets in the currencies markets, in fact recently there have been extreme bear markets - Like the cable plunging to lows not seen since the mid 80's. currencies don't fall in...
