The main thing is to be aware of you trading costs (commissions & slippage. During losing periods the drag from trading costs knocks out many active traders. Question about IB chart trading...

Just wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to trade off of the charts in IB, but have your order buy or sell a different security from what's on the chart? You should be able to do this with a conditional order. https://www.interactivebrokers.co.uk/en/index.php?f=584

Order queue priority for amended trades

I never sit in queues (limit order book) - I always take liquidity using a market with protect order for US markets, overseas is different - usually a limit order is required. When price hits my desired level - I want to get in immediately.

What is a good profit/commission+fees ratio?

You compare trading costs to your capital. Trading costs are typically ignored by the many misinformed traders. My trading costs are on average 1.5% of my capital. I would hate to have to make 20-100%+ just to break even yet the majority of newbie traders fall into this boat - making it...

Start of a bear market - DJIA January 2018

1900-2009: Fast & furious corrections of at least 10-20% from weeks to months considered normal. 2010-2108: A market not at all time highs for a week or two is considered a crash or the start of a bear market. Thanks to our long low volatility market the herd is easily spooked. The start of a...

Chances we are going into a full-blown bear market?

Yea, I really meant to put Trump with a question ? There were other things happening at the same time besides Trump state of the nation speech, like the 10 year yield spiking up, Greenspan's bubble comments, and the Fed set to raise interest 2-3 times this year. Not sure how to label it yet.

    2014: The Battle for Survival

The irony of trading is that you can get the big gains buy not having any kind of decent $ mgmt strategy, problem is the gains always revert back at some point.

Quick idea, if it doesnt work its cool.

If you want market predictions try Twitter or Stocktwits. Novice traders tend to obsess on entry signals whereas successful traders consider it of little if any importance, $ mgmt always comes first. Following another traders entry signals is a losing proposition, a road nearly every newbie...

Chances we are going into a full-blown bear market?

Its not important what the market does in the months to come & has no bearing on my bottom line. Less experienced traders often struggle with not knowing with certainty what they will do next, yet they focus on trying to predict what the market will do next.

XIV trader: ‘I’ve lost $4 million, 3 years of work and other people’s money’

From the original post: “I started with 50k from my time in the army and a small inheritance, grew it to 4 mill in 3 years of which 1.5 mill was capital I raised from investors" It's hard to tell from the wording when the $1.5M came into play. But yea, I agree that taking $1.5M and his $50k +...

    The sell-off explained

I was honestly looking for a reason why the stock market and crypto market crashed. When the buyers dry up the price eventually drops. Both in bitcoin and the stock market there was a big spike in FOMO (fear of missing out) over the last few months - this is the last of any buyers piling in...

    The sell-off explained

"It seems a lot of them don't seem to understand that daytraders can do the same thing that swing trading do. But not the other way around." First of all if your swing trading long/short 20+ futures instruments like most of us are you need at least $50k and will need a lot of grit to endure the...

How certain are you of the trades you place?

I am never sure a trade will work out - in fact I assume it won't which ensures my exit will be taken. People that are sure their trade will be a winner are more likely to not use a stop, keep lowering it, or even worse keep adding on to a loser. Obviously we all try to take the most favorable...

Florida Man Who Raised $100 Million To Short The VIX Likely Returning To Old Job At Target

Florida Man Who Raised $100 Million To Short The VIX Likely Returning To Old Job At Target

The VIX trade had become the very over crowded mugs game. The market will always inflict as much pain as possible to shake out as many traders as possible, but first it has to lure in the last mug. It was clear that market had to shake out both sides of the volatility mugs, there may be...

Just to thank you, and regrettably say goodbye

Happy trails learner - some of my best learning was done at painful times far away from the market. Classic TA, well most of you know I am a fan of it. When combined with outstanding $ mgmt there is nothing like it. Did classic TA fail on this recent sell off? No, there were text books head...

XIV trader: ‘I’ve lost $4 million, 3 years of work and other people’s money’

He claims he traded up $50k to $2.5M in 3 years - that's a 4,900% increase or 1,633% per year he is the best trader of all times, yea right. So now he has $670k left over & based on his big claims of his past performance it should take him only 4 months to be back at $4M. This guy probably...
