Why are markets more prone to false breakouts when it is heavily observed?

What you are talking about is called the Heisenberg principle. The more a price pattern is observed by speculators, the more prone you are to have false signals. The more a market is the product of non-speculative activity, the greater the significance of technical breakouts.

    Bamboo

Bamboo is an amazing resource - more & more homes have bamboo floors & furniture. I have bamboo growing in my yard - it creates an strong natural wall that is easy to mold & it contains the runoff of the topsoil, ideal for sloped borders which I use it for. I had looked for bamboo stocks...

    VSA and Wyckoff opinions

Wyckoff's core trading technique still works today - you see it in all time frames - the bull & bear traps that shake out the herd before a big move in the opposite direction - their stop loss makes for excellent low risk entries. I pay attention to volume. The third test of the day high shows...

What would you tell your 18 year old self about trading/investments?

The formula is simple - it works. I has allowed me to ditch my corp job in my mid 30's & live my life exactly how I want to. * Stay out of debt - and I mean all debt including a mortgage or student loan. * Put 25-50% of your gross income consistently into the market - avg in. * Invest wisely...

Newbie, confused about the Sharpe ratio

You nailed it- the Sharp ratio is not a good metric for traders. The Sharpe fails to distinguish between upside versus downside volatility and assumes the markets follow a normal distribution around a curve which is dead wrong. The Sortino Ratio, Gain-to-Pain, Calmar, Profit Factor, & closed...

Can taking Drugs Enhancer make you a Better Trader?

Drugs can make you feel like a great trader, problem is your discipline & focus will take a big nose dive eventually. What works is having passions outside of trading, especially if they get your endorphins fired up & get you outdoors. This is vital to be a good trader. Turn off the puter &...

Historical Earnings reactions data on stocks?

From my experience, the prior earnings reactions in the equity price can provide some decent clues as to how large the move may be if there was an earnings breakaway gap(s) within the last year. Think or Swim - Analyze/Earnings/Compare (see bottom - 8 quarters price moves 5 days before &...

Which trading strategy would you prefer?

Novice traders often have tiny winners & large loses by trying to force high win rates & the illusion of consistency over the current time frame. Seasoned traders look at a much larger sampling of closed trade NAV. A renowned risk mgr expert looked at the raw trading records of many of the best...

I don't know - it sure is odd. I was on the NYSE site for a few days doing some research. My broker told me I was flagged by the NYSE as a professional because of this. The claim made by the NYSE "only a professional would be looking at the type of data". I never had a Linkedin acct. The...

Suddenly classified as Professional for market data purposes?

Correction - I went back to look over my emails , it was the NYSE thugs & not the CME instigating the pro fees. The NYSE was trying to charge pro fees if you visited any NYSE web site or had a LLC - no matter how long ago or the nature of the business the LLC is used for. It backfired in a big...

Suddenly classified as Professional for market data purposes?

Another broker other than IB, about 6 months ago, was going after clients to impose the pro fees simply because they had a LLC or visited certain free websites containing company analytics which don't even require subscriptions. The broker stated they were being made to do this by the CME. By...

    Trading Profits

A trader taking wild risks can have a big year or two, problem is they go bust inside of 5 years from betting the farm on their trades. A better metric is a 5 year cume ROR with worst draw down. Being sustainable is far more important than a single year of profits.
