Why I Don't Believe in TA

For now, let's just cut it to PA (price action) and possible derivatives of it aka price indicators for the sake of experiment. I define PA as making trading decisions depending on past prices alone.

Why I Don't Believe in TA

I am glad you understand that I do not religiously defend one analytical approach versus another, but rather seek for the truth. Would be interesting to read possible answers indeed and I even have one myself: arbitrage opportunities are completely objective and quantifiable as well as other...

Why I Don't Believe in TA

Asked Surf in his journal yesterday: if TA is not objective, then what is an objective, quantifiable method of market analysis?

Why I Don't Believe in TA

Copy from my post in the other thread on Surf's #2 point: "This is a flawed argument against TA though, because it doesn't matter how many players cause the move. A move is a move and I have yet to hear about a sane hedge fund manager who just yells "buy!" or "sell!". Rather if he concluded...

    A simple price action approach

IMO the best way to play trendline breaks/re-tests is within the context of bigger swing/trend.

    A simple price action approach

Not sure how well-known but I heard it from buddy traders since a few years ago. Basically it means when the first try of a price to go somewhere fails, but is quickly followed by the second attempts to go in the same direction aka "second mouse getting the cheese (while the 1st one being...

    Surf's Special Situation Journal

I read #2 in some book, forgot which one exactly, but I am pretty sure I did. There was an episode about a big sugar trader who was told about TA patterns and then called the floor and asked to sell (or buy) decent amount to prove how price can easily change by the actions of a single person...

    Surf's Special Situation Journal

Interesting (despite not original) points, Surf. I have one question to you in relation to them: you say there is no evidence of technical analysis "working". For what kinds of market analysis there is clear objective evidence that they "work"? For example are there proven studies that certain...

    Surf's Special Situation Journal

Ended? I just decided that's enough plus got no more interested in attracting attention to my trades, because changed my business model (decided to stick with just a few friends to manage their money instead of a wider range of investors as I planned before). :)

50+ Cornix's trades are just luck, while a few Surf's trades is clear evidence of how superior PD's are. :D

Yea, second mouse entries are no doubts safer than the 1st mouse. I like them a lot, but take the 1st mouse too when PA favors it, because provided R:R is good it's worth to risk the small loss in exchange for a large gain potential sometimes.

Must say that your imagination gave you a pretty good picture of what I did back then. :) Indeed it was 1-min fine-tuned entry in the context of 5-min PA.

Yeah, newbies better start as small as possible I strongly believe. As Buffet said "if it's worth the penny, it's worth a dime". Once the method is proven, increasing size is just a matter of time.

Sorry Surf, if you think our general talk litters your thread tell me and I'll refrain from it. Have no intention to post any real-time day trading calls currently. Just talking with the trading buddies here at the forum so to say. :)

I also forgot to add one more thing regarding higher vs. lower frequency trading before: leverage. Day trader can use it much more aggressively as smaller stops allow that without going insane with the risk per trade. Agree, great morning (evening for me, but doesn't matter :D ), enjoyed NQ...

    Staying humble

Just remember that trading is a marathon. Short-term swings mean nothing, winning streak is no reason to celebrate just like losing streak is no reason to get despressed. Celebrate if you are able to extract money consistently, that's the goal.

It's a dance of balance so to say. If making more trades yields fatter bottom line despite higher commissions, then more trades make sense.
