22 things you need to know about trading from Vic Niederhoffer

OK, what's meant to be "drift"? Overall inclination of stocks to grow?

Do full-time forex traders exist or is it just make believe?

Yea. I keep the absolute minimum with the brokers myself (derived from historical draw-downs plus required performance margins). Simply no need to lock more money than you really need to trade there.

Makes sense then. No need to keep more than actually needed on your trading account.

Why not stop-loss? You don't have stats of your odds?

22 things you need to know about trading from Vic Niederhoffer

"Try not to sell markets that have big drifts upwards like stocks." Did I hear the word "trend"? :p

Some ECN's with retail access already have average EURUSD spread like 0.4 pips.

Are you satisfied about Your Trading?

No I am not. If I ever do, it will mean I stopped evolving.

Do full-time forex traders exist or is it just make believe?

Yea, makes sense if you trade intra-day, but too large TF's to watch the market all the time. My sessions are condensed to a couple of hours around London/Frankfurt opening then US opening so most of the time is spent on 5-min.

I indeed mostly use stop orders to enter break-outs and many trades last for 5-15 minutes, but no alerts, ever. Day trading means you are focused on price action all the time. Not for lazy bones. :D

Working 60 hours a week or working 2 hours a day?

Switched myself from 9-11 hours of screen time in a row per day to 3-5 divided in two sessions (London opening then US opening). Much more effective time usage.

Do full-time forex traders exist or is it just make believe?

Sure, here it is: http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&postid=3786950#post3786950 Notice how I never said I did trade it. Simple reason: I only trade first 2.5 hours of US RTH session (gets too late for me after that, I like to have normal biological rhythm of sleep/activity)...

Well, Atticus told that man made something close (or even inside) 8 figures. Hardly dealer would not notice that. I agree on aberration, though, played box options with Oanda heavily myself back in 2005, when they had IV priced somewhat wrong in front of NFP releases. :p

I am sorry about that confusion, Surf. I didn't catch the "tweet crash", just demonstrated hypothetical opportunity to show market can be viewed from different perspectives. Neither Wrbtrader is my "buddy". I don't know him personally, just read many of his posts and checked his site a...

One of this thread participants, Wrbtrader has YEARS of every day track records posted on his site. He was around already when I was just starting to trade and he's still here, still shows profit almost every day from PA based day trading. How is that not a proof I don't know. :)

AFAIK Xspurt trades within daily "gameplan" most of the time, which is higher TF context. When small TF's reach some point, which is likely to trigger that "gameplan" move, he flips on the dime catching small TF reversal with that bigger picture. At least that's my brief conclusion of his...

I remember your thread on trading ES using 2, 15-min charts and MACD. Was very interesting reading for me at that time as I was only finding my own way back then. It's amazing how differently we all perceive the same things. For me if I try ES, often when I enter the pullback the move is...

Do full-time forex traders exist or is it just make believe?

Speaking of what's possible. I remember one story Atticus told: about some German man who made millions from small amount by trading binary options at heaven forbid... spread betting firm (BOM). If not everyone knows, they take the other side of your trades. So if that happened in reality...

I admire people who are able to trade ES, especially with 4 tick stop. It looks like total mess to me most of the time, ha. Recently play some DAX, that is one nice mover, I wish it was more liquid though. NQ seems to be an optimal balance of volatility and liquidity.

Thanks. So say 10x+ PTTDD on a consistent yearly basis would be considered good average ROC by professional standards?

What would you call legitimate, achievable return for a professional trader? And what maximum PTT DD makes sense to achieve that? I am really interested in your opinion as a professional. Thanks.
