All stock options trades that a retail customer makes on TOS, RH or Tasty are executed on a listed exchange. They may be shopped elsewhere, but they will be executed on an exchange.
This is not to say large players may make off exchange option trades, for example Goldman may enter into a...
If your interested in guaranteeing getting hard to borrow/short stock rebates, you may want to consider buying an option combo (long call short put) instead of buying the stock outright. The short stock rate is written into the prices.
Definitely worth considering it if you are trading very...
Doesn't matter whether the option was in the money or not. I can file a "exercise or do not exercise" request for any option. For example, say AAPL is trading at 170.05 just before the close on expiration. You buy the 170 puts for .05. Stock closes at 170.05 (so if you do nothing your put...
Yes, quoted markets are now much tighter. The down side is customers no longer have priority in the SPX monthly. Trades are now based on size quoted on a pro rata basis. So if you change the market as a customer for a 1 lot and the mm joins you on a 50 lot, you are out of luck.
Not sure what you mean when you say EV, but a 4 lot in the SPX of a 2500 box is indeed 1 million. Sell the 2600 put and 100 call, buy the 100 put and 2600 call, that's 250,000 per box, x 4 is 1 million
@entropytrading I think you will have much better luck in trading the SPX for boxes. Lending 1 million would require you to do only a 4 lot of a 2500 box, so 16 contracts, so maybe $20 in commissions. You can watch time/sales for a box to go by and get an idea of what is trading for. I see...
This was very helpful, thanks for the link. I thought I had remembered seeing this somewhere, but couldn't find it. What's interesting was IB said it wasn't possible to direct a spread when I called them. I wonder if they will still potentially hold the spread if you send it as a directed order.
I would actually say the opposite for 2 reasons. IB may hold a complex order until they view it is "marketable." In fact it may indeed be filled if they sent it to an exchange. Also you can't direct a spread to a specific exchange, which can be very helpful when a spread is trading on 1...
Their are a lot of opportunities in what you do. If you are this advanced a trader, I think you would be better off moving away from IB and using software that will allow you to view orders on each exchanges COB (complex order book) and allow you to route spreads to specific exchanges. Another...
If you are trying to avoid paying taxes on a dividend, you may look into buying a long term leap combo. This is when you buy a call and sell the same strike put (you are synthetically long the stock). The expected dividends should be written into the price of the options and I believe leaps...
I don't see how you can figure $35 a day, Short stock rate for me Friday was 400% (and there was none available) you need to figure around $350 a day for $25,000 worth of short Tlry.
Does this sim take into account the cost to short a stock like TLRY? If you were trading with real money, you would be paying around 1.50 per day to be short it, so it would have to go down around 10 points every week for you to break even.
The monthly vix settlement price is based on the opening price of the Feb SPX options. I was just posting prior to the opening that there were large buyers of the these options which would put upward pressure on the vix settlement price.
Was meant to be an FYI before the opening to anyone...
