Why do futures gyrate so wildly overnight? Baffling

Good points, thanks. I just wanted to know what drives the occasional big shift from green to red overnight, and vice versa, absent news or earnings beats etc. Doing my due diligence to prepare for trading es. :D

Why do futures gyrate so wildly overnight? Baffling

I'm a stock trader and completely baffled by why futures swing up and down so much overnight... any insights? No news or earnings driving price action in the middle of the night. Futs were green a few hours ago, now red. Just curious...

The "Big Picture" On Trading The Market At This Time... SPX/ES

Yeah it's a daytrading market for now imo... best strategy is pair trading scalp style eg SQQQ vs SOXL, LABD/LABU, GDX/DUST, BOIL/KOLD, YINN/YANG etc in my own trades, but it's a grind. I just pick whichever pair has best volatility/widest range. I put a buy stop .20ish above the uptrending...

Inverse ETFs for the upcoming crash: UVXY TZA SQQQ SDOW SPXU

Curious, if I were to short 1 es/emini contract here, and it goes down 1/2 of the daily average recent range, roughly what are the numbers? How much is 1 to short, what $ profit if I cover after its dropped 1/2 the range during next few hours?

The truth is trading is incredibly boring..

Right. Part of what keeps trading exciting is to constantly Test new ideas, to try and make more money... Example: I had been daytrading sequences of entries with small 200-share trades spaced .2 apart with .12 trailing stops. Last week I did better with larger 300-400 share sequences spaced...

The truth is trading is incredibly boring..

It's like sex, if you're good at it - it never gets boring lol. Except when markets are low volatility chop.... that's boring af. I find daytrading exciting after 20+ years because each day has new gap stocks to figure out. A new puzzle set to solve each morning.

tips for become a good trader?

Some really good tips in this thread. In doing thousands of trades for over 20 years, here's a couple of ideas that may help: + tiny stops, lots of small trades is better than trading large size ... throw lots of small darts + avoid "inside" days and charts, which means never trade charts...

Inverse ETFs for the upcoming crash: UVXY TZA SQQQ SDOW SPXU

Good points, right re VIX, it's looking like support near 20, resistance near low 30s. It's been wonky lately, eg why didn't it rise as usual when SPY drops, can't tell why. I'm just in 700 UVXY here, since long weekend any negative headline can cause a volatility spike to profit from.
