Good point-- intraday news, tweets, fed speaking are all sources of randomness for daytrading... which is why I use automated OTO trailing or hard stops every time I trade.

Smart post, agree.. Scalping is the riskiest type of trading because it requires large size and very accurate entries and exits. Usually less than a few minutes roundtrips. I prefer intraday trades of anywhere from 20 minutes to several hours.

Great question; right re chop. Top criteria is always "is the S&P (or stock/etf) taking out a 2day high by 10AM?". Also I pay very close attention to the TRIN. Lots more to it.
