I got out today @ -0.125. Sep/oct spread and basis are dropping like a rock. Better than a loss but it didn't work out as expected.

    Anyone trade FCOJ?

You don't have to know which refineries will be closed to trade RBOB, contrary to refiner/oil stocks. You just had to realize the most damage was done to the refining capacity( long RBOB ) instead of extraction( long crude ), that was the trick with Harvey.

    Anyone trade FCOJ?

A lot of press releases with 50-70% fruits loss on trees, including on Valencia oranges which are harvested later in the spring. So I just took the last 5 lots hanging @ -1 on OJ K/N for a long term trade. I think it will go at a steep inverse later in the winter.

    Confused about Real-World Farmer's Commodities

Which EU legislation are you referring to? By the way, commodities that are NOT traded in a regulated exchange tend to be more volatile( dangerous for poor little farmer or consumer ). Check WTI and Brent volatility Vs other kinds of crude that are only physically traded, or power...

Hurricane Irma Headed Straight For ET

Nice, Baron. Perhaps it has to do with the height of the bamboo and the fact that your oranges are still really green. Anyway, good to see you went through without too much damage.

I guess this one( or a close one ) came on my alerts last week. But then I watched the back months spread liquidity and forgot about it. That's one of the problem. It's easy to find spreading opportunities on low liquidity prodcuts but you have to work your orders for a few days to get the...

http://www.foxbusiness.com/features/2017/09/11/orange-juice-futures-fall-as-florida-growers-dodged-worst-irma.html "Absolutely there was some loss, but it was not total devastation, which was what the market was basically pricing in," said Judy Ganes Chase, founder of J. Ganes Consulting LLC.

I hope you guys make it without too much destruction... That said, if one of you can go out checking if oranges have fallen off trees, it would be greatly appreciated( I know, I am a dick...LOL...Just joking...).

Just exited at the open @ 154.7. Irma seems mellower than I thought and the front spread went straight down at the open. You can laugh at me if it goes to 160 + today...LOL

I just put a new long term trade. -MWH18+2*KWH18-ZWH18 @ 199.75. The wheat class butterfly. -KW too undervalued compared to ZW and MW -KW H18 seems undervalued and MWH18 overvalued on their respective curves. -MW conditions have been improving and the stocks to use ratio is nowhere near 2007...

Interactive Brokers claims no execution on any NYBOT products... my FCOJ!!!

IB has had a lot of problems with NYBOT access in the last year. Last winter, I couldn't see KC spread markets for a few days( but could submit orders...perhaps the OP just had a stuck quote he couldn't hit because it wasn't there ).It looks recurrent. It must be some kind of programming or...

    Anyone trade FCOJ?

If you are looking for fundamental news play in the commodity space, here is an other one. I just shorted Cotton Dec17/Mar18 @ 1.85 based on yesterday crop conditions. It seems the rally was a late response to Harvey crop damage whereas the good/excellent condition has actually improved 1 point...

What percentage of your gross PnL is commission?

Definitely as a scalper. On my best years, around 10-20% was going to commissions + exchange fees. On my worst year( 2012 ), I paid close to 50%. I was trading around 1000 lots per day, had reduced IIP fees and looking for 1-2 ticks profits. IMO it's still better to look for high alpha trades...

Recommendations for Spread/Seasonal Futures Trading Books

I would add Heliette Geman " Commodity and commodity derivatives ". And it would be a good idea to know why certain markets have seasonal patterns. So for ag products "Mastering the grain markets" by Elaine Kub was pretty good.
