    Don's Openings, Part 6 2003

7 longs, 16 shorts. 17 wins, 5 losses, 1 scratch. +$2.44 .9% envelope on both sides. Grossed $3500 on 94,000 shares, despite losing a grand each in CLX and MMM (ouch!). I cut the list down to 121 stocks, but still had a few more fills than comfortable with. I ran out of screen space to...

    sell ES

Relax. It's Sunday night and I'm bored, just 'conversing' with other people in the same boring trade as me. Not trying to prove or sell anything, just chit chatting.

    sell ES

Covered a couple NQ at 1449 and ES at 1086.25. Had added to NQ at 1452.50 and put out some ES at 87.50. I'll hold these positions overnight, but I want to book some profits and reduce the size. Don't know what'll happen when europe opens and I ain't staying up to find out. Overall, I...

    Don's Openings, Part 6 2003

If the market opens up 2% and you are long a stock that only opened up 1/2%, you are still long something that's theoretically undervalued. On big up opens, some of my largest wins are from stocks that open low and play catchup quickly.

    sell ES

Pretty tight range, not exactly fireworks. So far it's barely been worth firing the machine up for. Short NQ at 1451.50, but about ready to throw in a stop and go to the gym.

    Don's Openings, Part 6 2003

Yes, interesting indeed. One thing to consider is the likelyhood of a higher than usual fill rate. Consider how many positions you can comfortably trade at once, maybe reduce your list. I'm anticipating a fill rate in the 20-25% range with a .9 or 1% envelope, based on past large gaps...

    How much did you lose....

Dicking around off and on from '94 to 2001 in various states of seriousness, but never really 'getting it'- down about $60,000 When I thought I had things figured out and started trading full time two years ago, I lost $13,000 in my first four months before turning profitable. Never a down...

    anyone trade single stock futures?

Yes, but don't most brokers still require an actual unwinding of both positions that cancel each other out, but are still charged commission? When ssf's were introduced, the plan was for them to be able to be held in either an equity or futures account. Are any brokers allowing them to be...

    market makers, specialists books

The NYSE publishes a book of all the rules that govern how the exchange operates. I haven't been able to find out how to get it from the website, but maybe if you called the exchange you could get a copy.

    Nyc Expo

I'll probably be there. More of a tax-deductible holiday than anything.

    anyone trade single stock futures?

I would like to know if any broker, retail or prop, will allow you to deliver stock against the contract at expiration. I'm very interested in arbing ssf's vs. common and the illiquidity and wide spreads don't bother me. Being able to deliver would cut the number of transactions and...

    What are your Trading Breakthroughs?

The number one thing that's helped me is to make it a core belief that I absolutely, positively never know what's going to happen with a trade, since each result is a random event. This way I have no attatchment to a position and the result of each trade has no bearing on my ego or emotions...

    Don's Openings, Part 6 2003

I don't mind at all. As traders, money is the only way we have of talking about how our job is going. A couple months back, I posted that I've been averaging about $6,000 a month net for the last year and a half doing openings. November was above average at $7700. Week one of December is...

    Traders of today...

I'm a business person. The goal of my business is to make money trading the markets. I have a strategy that works, but depends on some things that I have to obtain elsewhere- software, leverage, etc. In the business world, nothing is deserved or guaranteed. Before trading, I ran a...

    The New Brokerage Model....coming soon?

Does that mean you pay .003 and get a .002 rebate for adding liquidity, or something similar?

    PEG Dividend

You are correct. If you own PEG at the close today, you will get the dividend. Ex-date is tommorow, so it will theoretically be worth .54 less. Payment date is Dec 31, so that's when the dividend will hit your account, even if you sell it on the open tomorrow.

Trading a ranging stock - strategies

Since jdsu and sunw are almost twins and you can trade both of them, have you looked at pair trading them? Meaning always long one, short the other, trading the spread. With a spread, you might find a trend to trade, or play the outer ranges and cover in the middle.

    Don's Openings, Part 6 2003

Gross cents means the total of wins and losses, in cents per share. If one day I have wins of .08, .20 and .15, and have losers of -.1 and -.15, I grossed 18 cents before commissions. If I traded 1000 shares on every position, that would be $180 profit. I vary my share size greatly...

    Don's Openings, Part 6 2003

5 for 6 today, +.86 I've found that these thin, nothing days can yield some good results. I remember the half-day before christmas last year was also really good for the open. November turned out to be an above average month for openings for me. traded 18 out of 19 days. 13 wins, 5...
