What do prop shops offices look like?

Those first few pictures are of the Phoenix office and are at least 4 years old. I traded there for a few months. The top row, second pic from the left, that empty chair was actually my seat. Cool to see it again. Nice clean office in a good area. Now someone post some pics of a Bright...

And when they announce it to the media, it's also a great contrary indicator.

Is it possible to day trade $20 million+

I have over 70 million in buying power between three accounts. For daytrading however, I doubt I've ever had more than $3M on at a time. Now, if I wanted to go out with a bang, I could have some fun unleashing that kind of capital all at once. Would really freak out a few risk monitoring...

    RRSP Acct with US Stocks

IB says they have no plans to offer them. Bright would never offer them, not the same business at all. From the checking I've done, Questrade seemed like the best deal. Commissions are per ticket, not per share, but comparable to IB Canada's rates. Now that there is no limit on foreign...

Critical Questions I should ask myself.

What's my edge over my competition? Can I realistically go one year without making any money? How much money am I willing to lose before I stop trading? (Something you really should decide ahead of time because if you get to that point, you won't be able to decide with a clear mind)

What is a good ratio between your trading income and commision?

Agreed. This topic has been discussed in the past and the people who try to make the argument about "efficient" trading are missing the point behind trading to begin with, namely net profits. Would you rather gross $100k and pay only 5% in commissions or gross $5M and pay 95% in commissions?

    Government rule??????

btw, the non-marginable <$5 stocks isn't a government rule, but is implemented by many, but not all, brokers. Some allow it and require a higher margin amount, and others don't put any restrictions on it.

    Ex-Dividend, bad behavior

Think of it this way. If a stock pays a 20 cent dividend and on it's ex-date it opens unchanged it has actually opened 20 cents higher. So your observation is that many times a stock opens higher than its previous close. The fact it's on an ex dividend date is a coincidence. Stocks gap up...

You guys who do VOLUME, why so much?

You are the ultimate example of someone who is truly limited by a retail account. Prop will make your life so much easier. Good luck with the series 7 exam. It's not hard, just lots of reading.

Using synthetics to trade a directional spread

Maybe a visual would help. Here is a chart of the spread, expressed as LQD - 1.3 IEF, and a chart of the two stocks. I want to be long the spread (long LQD, short IEF) for an anticipated move back to 0 over the next 2-3 months with a stop about -2.25. If I were trading the common it...

Walking the walk (Blotter Thread Continued)

I finished the week on a good note. A very solid week for me, above the recent average. This my position trade account, the day trade account was down 900 today on light volume, only a handful of trades. Have a good weekend everyone.

Using synthetics to trade a directional spread

I want to establish a long position in the spread of LQD / IEF, on a 10x13 ratio, meaning long 1000 LQD for each 1300 IEF that I'm short. Because these etf's are high in dollar value and low in volatility, it would require a considerable amount of capital to put on a trade of say 3000 x 3900...

Walking the walk (Blotter Thread Continued)

This is just from the open, the first 30 minutes of the day. Any more trading in this acct today will be small unless something big happens. The position trades are doing well too, so a good day all around.

    Obsessed with account equity

Trade with size so small that the PnL really has no meaning to you. Focus 100% only on executing properly. And keep a good journal, not only of the mechanics of the trade, but your emotions. How you felt prior to entering, while in the trade and critique afterwards. Trade 10 shares at a...

I want to build a group of guys around your system.

Maybe he's looking for something that a group of guys can churn shares on daily and provide him with some nice commission overrides. The system only has to produce enough green to keep them coming in each day. Simple plan really.

From Prop firm to prop trading for a Hedgefund

The deal is already done and Echo ain't going anywhere. Merrill is not just a clearing firm to Echo. They bought Pax Clearing, which owns Echotrade. Echo has already implemented Merrill's shortable stocks list. They have the largest base of retail holdings of any firm and the available to...

Walking the walk (Blotter Thread Continued)

I've subscribed and canceled my sub to trade ideas 3 or 4 times over the years. Either got busy on other projects and never used it, or couldn't figure out how to make it do what I want and gave up. I would like to pick your brain sometime on some ideas I have. PM me if you want to chat on...
