Don's openings and more for 2005

That's total shares traded, both in and out. I put the blotter on the P/L thread and there you can see the size I traded on each stock. The size shown there is one side.

100%. If you are risking your own money, this is the standard.

Don's openings and more for 2005

Rollover day is the only explanation I have for it. But I've only ever seen days like this on triple witchings. The spoos were not jumpy pre-market either. Maybe some insanely huge program trade on the open or something. It came totally out of the blue, which is why I at first thought I...

    Trader P/L 2005

Sometimes it's like someone just drops a bag of cash in your lap. Second best day ever, I think I'm booking off early today.

Don's openings and more for 2005

I knew we'd have some good stories here today. I also immediately thought I screwed something up when I started to get so many fills, but past experience has taught me to be patient and reassess. Took me a while to even get a handle on what I was in. I always bail too quickly on days like...

    san diego traders

Gekara, Where in Canada did you move from? I'm in Canada as well and trade under a San Diego outfit. I'm down there a couple times a year to keep in touch with the office, do some networking and get some surfing in. Where in the city did you settle? I got a place in Del Mar last time I...

Don's openings and more for 2005

Would be interested to know how or why you were long PRU when it opened up 7 cents. My buy was 66.39 using a .7% envelope, and it opened at 66.76. You bought at the equivalent of .15% envelope. Seems extremely tight to me, and within the range of noise. I sent orders today with spoos...

    Merger Arbitrage & Margins

Been discussed ad nauseum on this site. You can find a ton of info using the search function. A few firms of the top of my head- Echotrade, Bright trading, Assent, Carlin

    Merger Arbitrage & Margins

That's a capital intensive strategy and therefore idealy suited to prop trading. Many places will give you massive leverage on m&a spreads.

HydraTrade was developed by the guys who designed Hammer. Quite similar, but not many shops using it yet.

This is your problem, you are trying to justify it. You can't and it doesnt matter. Previous points about defining risk prior to entering a trade is trading 101 stuff. Also if you are trading homebuilders, you should educate yourself on the link between them and interest rates (not fed...

    IB short list getting worse?

No. I've been short a dividend paying stock through the ex-date and wasn't bought in. The dividend is paid by you on the payment date and debited from your account then.

Don's openings and more for 2005

But that can be said of any strategy that depends on market volatility. In fact I would guess that there are less people involved nowadays because of the shrinking volatility. The reward may be smaller, but so is the risk, precisely because of the shrinking vol, so it's relative. My R:R...

Don's openings and more for 2005

I wouldn't say dead yet. I'm up more this year than all of '04 for opening orders, and I do it old school, all manually. August has been dead for me though, I'm barely profitable, which is better than previous Augusts, which have been flat to negative.

Not the same place. This group has an office in San Diego and just opened one in Scottsdale. Those are the only two offices, and they have a number of remote traders.

I've been with them since they started and have been associated with that office and Jonathan and Mike for a number of years. I can't say enough good things about both of them. Solid guys, no bs about anything. Problems are rare, but they are addressed and taken care of immediately. The...

How many of us ET traders are up or down this year?

I'm 25% ahead of the pace needed to reach my annual goal. At the current rate I should hit my target by the end of September. This includes taking about 3 weeks of vacation.

    Bright Overnight Haircut?

Most of you guys would be shocked at how much leverage some firms will extend to experienced, capitalized traders. Haircut is a negotiable expense, some firms don't charge it. They don't all calculate it the same either. I've tried to get Echotrade to explain their haircut calculations to...
