    Enough Capital???? Whats your experience?

"Scalable to absorb the risk you take" - by this I assume you mean that you scale down your size so that your losing trades are acceptable in relation to the capital you have to work with. And if you have $5k to trade with, to size down to an acceptable risk level, maybe you're making $200/...

Don's openings and more for 2005

A few million, LOL. I trade opg's from an account I keep at around $25,000. Believe me, if I had a few million in cash, I wouldn't be working 10 hour days. As for confidence, it's pure numbers for me. I keep detailed statistics and have numbers going back almost 4 years now. Two losing...

Don's openings and more for 2005

Today was a dud. Average fill rate, nothing special. I upped the size in about 3 dozen stocks rather than send more orders. The two fills that sucked the most ended up being double size. Actually if not for S, I would have made some money, but I lost 2400 on him. Two red weeks in a row...

    Maximum stocks you will trade

Daytrading, usually less than 10, but on a really busy day, could be 20+ (that's at a time, not number of symbols in a day) For my portfolio management system, I currently have 85 positions on, holding from a day to a few weeks. But I don't have a maximum, I'll trade whatever signals I get.

What's the dumbest thing you've done?

Sending a large basket of orders after entering the price of S&P futures out by 100 points. I was long about $10M worth of stock before I could cancel the rest. Got freakin' lucky with the market and actually made a few grand, but could have wiped out my account.

Stats for successful trader in prop ?

Have enough money saved or a second income to survive the learning curve. Trade small and conserve your capital above all else. If you manage to survive long enough, you will eventually make it.

    Opening orders (OPG orders)

The opening orders strategy as most on these boards trade it, is not some system that just hands you cash. You get thrown into some positions with a very slight edge and then you trade out of it, that's it. No magic bullet. Sorry to disappoint if you were expecting easy money. They're...

Lease a seat for $30 dollars!!!!!!!!!

Why would the seat owners lease so cheaply? They're only getting a 1% yield on their seat. What are the other benefits of ownership that would make you want to tie up that money for nothing?

Stats for successful trader in prop ?

I'll second that LOL Don has been asked this question before and has posted stats, you'll have to search for them.

    Hammertrade

Hammertrade is used by Assent, one of the bigger, more well known professional trading firms. I don't know if it's offered elsewhere. I use it and am happy with it. Fast, customizable, stable. They also have a product called Anvil which I think more people are using now than Hammer.

Question about getting a new broker (Canada)

That's for brokers. You're not a broker. Looks like you need $3,000 cdn to open an account and will spend a minimum of $10/month on commissions or fees. IMO, IB is your best choice for active trading from Canada. I've had an account there for years, never any problems.

How do prop firms tend to handle taxation?

I didn't say I was incorporated. I meant a T-2124, which is a business return filed as part of your personal tax return. This is where you itemize all your deductible expenses, depreciation of capital equipment, etc against your revenues (trading profits). The funds you withdraw from your...

How do prop firms tend to handle taxation?

Most US prop firms give you a form called a K-1 at the end of the year, which shows your P/L. This is if the firm is organized as a partnership, with you as a certain class partner, which is a common arrangement. I spent some bucks to have a high priced accountant read my prop agreement and...

    Coaching traders as a business

So was the coaching gig profitable, was the money worth your time? It would seem that the intense one-on-one people would expect would have to cost them a pretty penny to make it worth your while.

Don's openings and more for 2005

Lots of listed stocks don't open right at 9:30, quite common for some to be delayed several minutes. If you send regular limits and cancel after 15 seconds, you'll miss a lot of fills. And Don is right, something's wrong on your KO calculation, you're way off.
