Don's Openings and More for 2006

Two relatively busy days to start the year, both nicely green. As far as betas, they make a very small difference most days, a couple pennies. Since the beta is multiplied by the size of the gap, they become more significant on big gap days. I calculate my own beta #'s over a 6 month time...

    Trader P/L 2006

Tough for me to post screenshots of everything as I trade from as many as 6 accounts. Great start to the year though, +8100, traded about 230,000 shares, which is a lot for me. Hope this is a good sign for the new year.

Don's Openings and More for 2006

I'll start off 2006 with a review of my 2005 trading of this strategy. I've posted my annual results the last few years in the spirit of the thread. 2004 results are here: http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&postid=658387&#post658387 I trade the strategy 100% manually aside...

    US Trading Capital

There are deals out there with half a cent per share or better, virtually unlimited buying power and 100% payout. The only way I can see that the firms you are describing could possibly stay in business is by relying on their traders never finding out what else is out there.

Do you start new year with same $$$ amount as prior year?

Are you saying you don't find it that hard to average 5 points a day in the ES contract?

Do you start new year with same $$$ amount as prior year?

Most, if not all, prop traders let their account grow to the size they need for the strategies they trade, then sweep excess profits regularly, like every month end. That's one of the big advantages of prop, you can put excess capital to work elsewhere and still trade without the limitations...

    Different Trading approach?

I have sat next to some seriously good scalpers. Fast fingers, lots of trades, not much thinking. Ask yourself this. Would you rather take 5 trades a day to make 50 cents/share, or 100 trades/day to make .05 cents/share? Not saying your way may not work better for you, but don't assume...

    What do you call yourself?

Financial trader is what I say. If I don't want the usual follow up questions I say "I buy and sell stuff on the internet"

    Trader P/L 2005

Ok, so what's the % return of someone who made $500, but has put up no money of their own? Many prop traders start with zero and trade the companies money. Some put up a token amount. Either way, the buying power is available to trade much much more than their equity balance would indicate...

    Full time traders --please respond

I try to be at my desk at least an hour before the open. Lots of times I just wake up early and am in an hour or more before that. From 30 minutes before to about an hour after the open I'm very busy. Then the rest of the day I'll get up every hour or two for a snack or to pester my wife. I...

Don's openings and more for 2005

Spunky, how do you feel about landlords who rent space to businesses? What about a place that sells tools to contractors, or people who sell advertising? Do you find it upsetting that these people are making profits off the back of other business people? Professional traders are running a...

    NoFrills Trading 2006

You're going about it the right way. Good organization, record keeping and goal setting are under appreciated, especially by newer traders. I'm working on my 2006 strategic plan now as well. cheers

Is this pairs trading or arbitrage?

Arbitrage just means you are playing the relative valuation of two or more instruments. Pairs trading is a type of arbitrage.
