How does "Market Open" affect your trading

Don't feel bad, I submitted orders on 433 stocks today and got filled on two. Just ultra dead this week.

There seems to be very few Big Indepentdent Traders.....

Once you can afford to live the lifestyle you want though, more and more money doesn't really matter. A good independant trader that's been around a while could build a low 7 figure stash with a 6 figure income. How much more do you really need? Unless you aspire to rub shoulders with the...

How does "Market Open" affect your trading

Correct. With those numbers, the market would be opening virtually unchanged. Keep in mind though that you are essentially trying to predict where the market will open at 9:30 based on where the futures are trading. Therefore you would probably want the most up to date prices and wait as long...

    Highest Possible Stock Leverage

Retail accounts are limited by government regulated margin amounts (Reg T). Proprietary acccounts though can be what ever the firm wants to give you. 10, 20, even 50:1 leverage overnight is possible depending on the strategy, experience level and capitalization of the account holder.

    Assent?

I traded at Assent and had no issues with them. Great software, good buying power. They're real sticky on compliance issues, which isn't a bad thing. It seems Assent is just a colleciton of numerous individual groups and your experience there mostly depends on what group you are under. If...

what do you do while waiting for a pefecrt setup?

That's one of the problems when you only have one strategy. Why let your time and money lie dormant and be unproductive? You'll have a smoother equity curve and make more money if you can employ several non-correlated strategies at the same time. If you only have one strategy, then working on...

How does "Market Open" affect your trading

The spot price, or S&P 500 cash, is just where the index closed the previous day. Every financial website and data feed will have this. For futures you will want to use the emini, contract symbol ES. If you are relying on delayed data for this, your prices could be off significantly by the...

How does "Market Open" affect your trading

They're wrong on the 15 minute thing. You can submit right up until the stock opens, even if it is opening late. The common understanding around here is that you had to have your orders in two minutes prior to the open to be ensured a fill you are entitled to. I have scoured the nyse rule...

How does "Market Open" affect your trading

You're right, I typed that wrong, I meant a high dividend yield. When fed funds were in the 1-2% range a year or two ago, FV was a negative number.

How does "Market Open" affect your trading

Thanks for posting this Don. I get so many people asking me to spell out the basics of opening orders and I can't find the old old threads that talk about the specifics. So I'll add some of my own info here and then bookmark it for future reference. "Where do you find fair value, and what...

Trading both sides outside the US?

There's no rule saying you can't be on both the bid and the ask at the same time in the same stock. Unless you trade AMEX listed stocks, where they don't even veil their attempt to control their racket. Same goes for options.

What was your longest losing streak?

MSKL, you are 100% spot on. I traded a pure arb system for 2 1/2 years and never had a losing trade unless I screwed up, usually a keystroke error. 1000+ trades, 100% win rate. It took A LOT of work to come up with this system, scouring the darkest corners of the market where no one else was...

Maybe I don't get the 'chit chat culture' here on ET, as I rarely frequent that forum. It seems to me though that almost all the problems are on chit chat. But this is a trading site. Why don't all the hardcore political/religous wackos have their fun on a Yahoo board somewhere? I don't...
