Grinding it out, day after day

I trade at a prop firm, my buying power is whatever I need. I frequently have $1M+ in use during the day.

Grinding it out, day after day

I'm a big believer that athletics and training contributes to a lot of desirable qualities. It teaches you discipline, goal setting, how to devise and follow a plan, how to deal with adversity and discomfort. You have to be able to focus intently through distraction. I've been athletic and...

Grinding it out, day after day

I'm ALL about simple. To me, the logic and reasoning to explain why you're in a trade should only take a couple sentences.

Grinding it out, day after day

I've only had two losing months since I started making consistent money, and they were relatively minor. The nature of one of my main strategies is that I will take some painful hits sometimes. The worst for pure pain and speed was August '07 when the first hint of the credit crisis sprung up...

Grinding it out, day after day

Yes, the same list daily. Around 900 stocks. I would trade ETF's or futures if I traded just on technical patterns, especially swing trading. But I am not currently doing anything like that.

Grinding it out, day after day

To address some of the questions so far... I don't really run black box auto systems. I have one that is 100% auto, but it only trades the first 15 minutes of the day. The rest of my stuff is more grey box, where the system flags a set up and I have to decide to enter or not. I also use...

Grinding it out, day after day

Some background: I have been trading full time for 8 years. Prior to that I was a firefighter and had a strong interest in the markets for several years. I didn't know what I was doing but the market's siren song kept me coming back. I basically lost all my disposable income for about a 7...

Grinding it out, day after day

Surprisingly good first week. Net $23k on about 700,000 shrs traded. I don't know if I'll post account statements every week, but I'll post the first week to get things established. I'll get into some generic explanations of what I do later. <img...

Grinding it out, day after day

I’ve decided to keep a public trading journal for 2010. I really debated whether or not this is a good idea, but here’s why I decided to do it. I’ve gradually gotten more complacent and somewhat lazy over the last couple years with my trading. I’ve been fortunate to have a couple...

    writing a call in IB

Pull up a quote, click the bid, sell. It's the same as shorting a stock.

    Wealthy Option Traders

Disagree completely. Without exception, all the successful traders I know grind out consistent profits, are extremely risk averse and never swing for home runs. They get rich as a consequence of this attitude. But this thread is about option traders, maybe they're different...

200%/year for an AVERAGE trader according to Acrary, still true?

We are talking about a trader with several years experience and a couple hundred thousand dollar account. Obviously he has a positive expectancy system and the discipline to follow it. Taken in that context, I think a 200% annual return is totally possible and not an unreasonable goal...

    Best Place for Large Deposits

I'd check out Echotrade and Bright Trading. I am at Echo and have had a 6 figure account there for years with no issues, solid firm. Both are down with leverage on spreads like you are looking for.

    Opening Orders - 2009

ES is an electronic market, not open outcry. You're confusing it with the SP contact, which is pit traded and closes at 9:15 and re-opens at 9:30. ES keeps trading continuously.

NYSE Opening Trade Place by ???

I send hundreds of them every day less than five minutes to the open and they are not rejected. As long as you route to the nyse and mark it opg, it will be accepted if the stock is not open yet. It doesn't matter what the imbalance or indication is.

NYSE Opening Trade Place by ???

There is no time limit, as long as your order is there before the stock opens. Same rule applies if a stock halts mid-day, you can place an OPG order for when it re-opens. There are size and time priority rules, so you aren't guaranteed a fill if the stock opens at your price, but the...
