My guess is the letters when related to trading, practically speaking, could be anything even beyond the 26 letters we normally know and use, due to too complex to handle by anyone of any IQ.

The Flaw in Trading System Reasoning...?

Thanks for the good point. According to Wilder, "the most important index to use for a trend-following system is the ADXR; however, generally the most money is made in the shortest period of time when the stock or commodity is volatile." Actually, he also suggestd to use his Commodity...

The Flaw in Trading System Reasoning...?

Talking about trend and ADX, the article here does not even mention anything about Volatility? http://www.forex.com/forex_trend_indicators.html Q The ADX is used to determine whether or not a market is trending (regardless if it's up or down), with a reading over 25 indicating a trending...

Q Volatility is also an indicator of movement. The paradox is that volatility is always accompanied by movement, but movement is not always accompanied by volatility. A commodity can move up very slowly and be high on the Average Directional Movement Index Rating (ADRX) but still be low on...

    Pyramiding into a trend

Guppy suggested in his Better Trading about the above topic to analyse a trend into 4 stages: 1st- Young for always 3 positions, 2nd- Robust for adding 1 to 3 positions, 3rd- Mature for adding 1 or 2 positions, and 4th- Collapse can be sudden or gradual.

    Pyramiding into a trend

Chande's "Beyond technical analysis" has studied the above topic with equity curves and data for a comparison of 4 strategies: Constant 2 contracts, Half-on-loss, Double-or-half, and Double on loss. Perhaps defining what's the maximum risk in terms of % capital would be the most important...

    Pyramiding into a trend

Kaufman in his book "Trading systems and methods" provides some interesting numbers and charts to analyse various types of pyramid methods together with informative risk/ reward ratio and equity curve. Jones' "The trading game" also analyses it with example data.
