Oh my, not that false vacuum and gravitational repulsion baloney!!

connecting a cable to the moon

There are so many problems with the so-called space elevator - the sheer technical absurdity of stringing a cable from ground to synch orbit, inadequate tensile strength of any substance (including the carbon nanotubes mentioned in the report - which can neither be constructed in sufficient...

    xp failure to shut down

FYI - you're not "forcing a shutdown", you're turning off the power - same result as pulling the plug. If XP won't do an orderly shutdown, there could be something wrong with your computer environment - bad driver, unresponsive task, hardware glitch, etc.

    xp failure to shut down

Open the windows task manager and switch to the Processes tab to see if there are any processes running. Could be a hardware/driver related problem too. The OS can't do an orderly shutdown until all the drivers have acknowledged the "shutting down". Might also explain why you're having...

Money management on an automated strategy

If all you're doing is trying to figure out when to increase your trading size when your account grows enough, why waste time with "automating" it? It's not that complex and what's the value of automating it? This isn't likely to change even on a daily basis, let alone an hourly or shorter...

connecting a cable to the moon

    1. Setting aside the obvious aerodynamic issues, air friction and surface heating, and worrying about smacking into a boat or something else as the rocket careens 5 feet above the ocean at 7 miles/second, the rocket should eventually exit the atmosphere 2. What do you mean by "complete...

connecting a cable to the moon

It's wasted time and money like that study (paid for under NASA's Institute for Advanced Concepts program) that are part of the reason all we have in operation is the primative and archaic Space Shuttle - and now all we have are three of those. NASA and Lucent Technologies have a lot in...

    Win2k Encryption??

bungrider - you say you want the files to be readable on your computer but not another computer. Do you mean that if the file is copied to another computer or emailed that it wouldn't be readable? If you encrypt a file under W2K, it should only be readable by the user who marked the file...

    Always N Channel

Don't you need something else to help confirm this? Seems like you'd get whipped around during choppy trading or periods when price ranges were narrowing into a pennant formation.

    emini tick change???

Tea - you've made a number of large assumptions in a vacuum. Other than just your personal guess, on what are you basing your idea that dropping the tick size to a dime and theoretically saving a few bucks per emini on the spread would dramatically increase liquidity? Smaller ticks in...

    Advanced users of charting software

He didn't say "advanced charting", he said "advanced USERS of charting software". So presumably he's asking for comments from users who have been using some kind of charting software for a long time. Lojze - please confirm your intended question.

    emini tick change???

Don't believe they're considering it all. As I recall, that thread was someone complaining about the tick size and how it SHOULD be narrowed. Can't see it happening though.

    question about dsl/cable router

Check Circuit City. I just did this for a friend over the weekend. The wireless router (also has 4 wired LAN ports) plus a USB-based wireless adapter was about $120. But check TigerDirect.com too - I just saw an email from them and they've got name brand wireless gear for pretty cheap.
