    dual processor charting software

They will automatically make use of dual processors simply because each one has at least two threads of execution - at a minimum, one to service the datafeed inflow and another for the charting. Quote.com uses a separate inprocess datafeed processing thread. eSignal and DTN use a separate...

should I go SCSI vs IDE?

Bottom line is that unless you're running a boat load of intense disk intensive operations (which is doubtful for most user applications, especially if you had a sizable memory footprint), you won't see any difference. My friend's got a 200 GB IDE drive on his VAIO that he uses when he's...

Why are DIA options CBOE's exclusive right?

I believe the CBOE has a similar licensing arrangement with Standard & Poors - so at least the OEX (S&P 100) and the SPX (S&P 500) index options would be exclusive to them - just like the S&P futures and their related options are exclusive to the CME.

    Laptop battery life

Could also be an issue that the charging circuits on some laptops don't do as good a job as others. On some laptops, leaving your computer plugged in most of the time can actually permanently reduce the storage capacity of the battery. I saw that problem a couple of years ago with the...

Can i do two monitors on a Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440

I believe the Nvidia chipset used on the MX440 is dual monitor capable, but not all boards built with it are. It's pretty simple to verify though - if you've got two RGB outputs on the back of the card, the card is dual monitor capable. If you have only one monitor output, it's not.

    Anybody Else Hate Quote.com

Be sure you're not confusing the low end LiveCharts with the Qcharts feed. Haven't seen any problem with my Qcharts connection today.

The owner of the site, please explain.

NoMoreOptions - Sounds like your misunderstanding here is that you think that ranting about trading (or specifically in your case - delusions of some kind of conspiracy to take your money) is the same thing as trading. Ranting about trading related subjects is Chit Chat - NOT a discussion...

Why are DIA options CBOE's exclusive right?

They have a licensing agreement with Dow Jones & Company for options on DIAmonds. They also have exclusive rights to options on the Dow (DJX options) and five other Dow Jones-based products (DTX, DUX, DJR, ECM, and MUT). Not a thing illegal involved - just business.

Windows NT and USB on an Old Dell Laptop

There are a couple places that sell USB drivers for Windows NT - don't know if they're compatible with what you want to hook up, but run a Google on "USB Windows NT" and check them out. But it's like all other software - if you continue to use a version that's two complete product cycles old...

Will ORCL be around for another 24 months?

Hardly seems likely that Oracle's going to disappear in the next couple of years - but don't base it on a convention. The last user convention NextStep had was flying too - but it still failed in the market place. If Steve Jobs hadn't gone back to Apple and then used Apple's money to buy his...

    System suddenly slow

The spyware/trojan horse angle sounds the most likely cause. I cleaned up a friends computer and their son's computer a couple of weeks ago - both were infected with multiple viruses and multiple trojan horses. Two weeks later and their son's computer is again grinding to a halt. Took a...

Why do quants need to know programming?

All the other reasons already noted are correct, however the most fundamental reason firms don't look at quant candidates who can't program (you're so called "perfect fit" vs. just a good quant) is because they don't have to - they can find people with all the skills. If you can't program...

    Personal Messages - Inbox

Just a thought - But when accessing ET, there's a message that shows how many "new" messages are in my Inbox. Is this unread messages or new within some time period? I don't access ET every day, sometimes not for lots of days depending on what's going on and it turns out I had a bunch of...
