    The Consistency Thread

If you consider yourself a "discretionary" trader, it is by default that you will experience peaks and valleys simply by the fact that you can only be in rhythm with the markets for so long. You can trade period "A" near-perfectly but that just sets up period "B" which tends to do the most harm...

    "greed"

The leap of faith I took in abandoning pure setups required embracing each and every situation as unique, meaning that x+y+z equals 'buy' today but might equal 'sell' tomorrow. On the surface I would concede it would appear random. It was not an easy transition to make, but I've been pretty...

    "greed"

On some granular level I would agree, but in my trading I've been slowly shifting away from discrete setups towards a more fluid concept of opportunity where yes/no is not an easy point for me to boil down to. The transition to primarily discretionary trading has made me revisit a host of old...

    "greed"

Yes this has been the reasonable compromise that seemed most sensible on the surface, but after trying it for a time it just left the issue unresolved. When you think about it, any trading indecision can be "ameliorated" by just cutting one's position in half or taking a "middle" approach...

Best indicators to guess tops/bottoms; determine overbought/oversold areas

TA works best on markets no one looks at. TA is least useful in the biggest and most liquid markets.

    "greed"

Yes good point; I used "greed" for lack of a better word in describing my habit of progressively extending my profit targets the greater the position went in my favor. "Dumb" might be a better choice :)

    "greed"

When I traded momentum stocks during the bubble years, I remember always taking a point or two then watching the thing go up another 5+; it happened so often that I just became resigned to the fact, and it never really bothered me. The difference today is that I now just focus on the same 3 or...

    "greed"

I guess I am too liberal in considering open profits as "house money" to be leveraged. I'll have to ask the wife about (2). :)

    "greed"

Rather than the usual 'losing-trade-turned-investment' syndrome, I find myself lately with the opposite bad habit: overestimating profitable positions. Once a trade goes into the green, I have a bad tendency after a time to start pulling out onto the next time frame and trying to surmise its...

    Opposite Trading Pairs

I always felt that eur will go where it's gonna go and chf will get dragged along regardless, barring world war/aliens invading planet (meaning, you might as well have said usd/eur). sorry been up too long stoopid currencies.

    Name of reversal chart pattern?

Maybe I'm just missing something (and I've only just skimmed these over) but those gartley/bats/crabs seem like a bunch of crock to me. The reason? A stopped out gartley, looks like a bat, a stopped out bat looks like a crab, etc etc. In retrospect, every M or W reversal pattern no matter...

    Is Economics rubbish? (serious discussion)

The market is a discounting mechanism. Taken in isolation, generating profits from making the "correct" economic assessment of the future is a function of the extent to which your opinion has already been incorporated into the present market price.

Will I make it or never post here again?

If you really want to go further in your futures trading, you will probably want to give yourself more leeway for future drawdowns and just leave the profits alone for a while.
