    'Tis the Season

I dunno, my gut is telling me the popular trade right now is to go long yen and sell cad, euro against -- would make me nervous to join them, especially if there is some huge bet that someone needs to get stopped out of first.

    Poker and the Beginning Trader

Really enjoyed my time playing there, I ended up just breaking even by the end but never went into minus. Only played a few hours (a good run in blackjack kept me busy all afternoon), but I could see how the game could be quite profitable for some. There were a couple guys there just itching...

Market Wizard Tom Baldwin way of taking loss

I think in his MW interview Baldwin mentioned he was long bonds a full 5 handles before the bottom in 87. It seems it would all come down to relative position sizing in such an extreme scenario.

    Position sizing

I asked a similar question along these lines in another thread that never got past page one. But I did get the following, which was and still is the best answer I've ever gotten on the subject: You never cross the line of too much leverage if you are who you would like to think you are when...

    This sucks

ES -- I've always found that the bigger the gains prior, the bigger the hits that would follow, and the better the lesson learned after all. Just don't rush the comeback.

    Trader P/L 2006

Gonna post my p/l for the next month or so, not many futures or fx posters here so I'll be representing as a (mostly) currency futures trader. I've been finding more and more that I trade best adopting the mentality of a floor trader, taking each session one at a time, so I'm figuring a...

Nymex to Pay Gold Traders $275 Million to Support Move Online

Hasn't the ecbot trade done/will do to the floor traders all that a side-by-side at comex would be expected to already? Then 300k might not look so shabby.

Anyone trade better when you're down?

You can continue to believe you trade better when you're down, until the day comes when you keep pushing past the point of no return -- I wouldn't want to foster that belief if I were you.

How to use (short term) fundamental analysis?

Even if you just consider yourself a tape reader, f/a will come into play almost every day. Just keep watching the market, watch how it reacts to news, keeping in mind that alot of "news" tends to already be priced in. Keep bonds, gold, oil, stock indices on the screen, as the same...

    Is this slippage or what!

Last I checked, there is no such thing as a "guaranteed stop" in any regulated market, nor should there be. The biggest argument against retail fx is that it is a "filtered" market; yes, a specialist at the NYSE is also trading "against" you in a sense, but at least the tape he puts out is...

Pivot Ranges: Useful Tool or Snake Oil?

I'd assume the "smart" money, by definition, does not rely on "incidental" indicators like pivots, and may take them into account but will have more reliable sources/methods on anticipating demand and supply. A retail trader makes do with what he can, but should think about whether his methods...

    Good Poker Books

I'm still a poker noob, but I got alot out of Harrington's books on tournament play, and a book called Middle Limit Holdem by Ciaffone (sp?). The Sklansky books are also required but I think I understood the concepts only after playing alot more, and coming back to re-read them.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to make money in the markets

Agreed, one's gut response in dealing with these "issues" is to tackle them in isolation, when in fact just about all of those listed get "solved" simultaneously, once a certain understanding is achieved.

What to do when you have access to inside news?

That's the point I was going to make, if you did have inside info, have someone anonymously post a "tip" or "hunch" on some public forum, then act upon it claiming you just got desperate and took a shot.
