    trend following delusion shattered

I think the question here is anticipation of a trend before it occurs vs "follow" it after it's already started -- otherwise, I'm sure any trader would love a trend in any time frame, as long as it was in his direction :)

Did another hedge fund blow up??

As opposed to the lively banter offered by the typical ex-jock frat boy? You don't have too many alternatives in wall street these days lol :)

    Fx futures Journal

Gotta figure that we'd get some kind of move like this soon after they release studies on how volatility on the yen has shrunk to lowest level in years. Nice catch guys.

    Eur/cad

If people are expecting more weakness in US economy than is currently priced in, one might extrapolate that demand for cad would drop as well, especially as energy needs temper. You could also want to consider that it's just coincidence that EUR/CAD is making an outsized move at this point...

    Eur/cad

Euro getting stronger while loonie getting weaker? :) Seriously, I don't know if there is a direct relationship here, weaker oil and the forthcoming change in taxes on income trusts would explain selloff in cad, while euro seems to be getting stronger vs everything else.

    Facing our demons

My biggest weakness is the tendency to "tighten" up when I'm trading well while getting more aggressive when I'm trading poorly. I've never had a problem on "offense" in finding new trades, yet when it comes to the proper time to pull back and put on the brakes when things don't go my way, I...

Trading is Gambling. You know it! Be honest

It doesn't matter what you call it -- you have nothing to gain by denying uncertainty. Become comfortable with it, you can make multiples more.

Is trading Gambling or not .."What say You" Vote here.

Why do you need a second broker? The other way to express what you've done is just to close out your position, while "betting" that the market will retrace a little bit for you to re-enter. If it doesn't retrace, you're stuck with what you have. If it retraces completely and then some, you've...

What happened to gold at 6:39EST (13 nov)?

Isn't the problem with breaking trades that it discourages traders from providing liquidity when it's most needed?

Would you rather make 3 million on your own or half that as . . .

Yeah I'm by no means trying to belitte what we're doing here, I take great satisfaction in what I'm doing that extends way beyond the monetary rewards. But I still can't help a tiny part of me that feels it's all just a "side" game that we as individuals have no choice but to settle for, like...

    Bromides that are pure BS

On this common adage, if your entry point is so bad that you can't wait until your entry becomes a winner before you add, it's probably a good idea not to want to add to that position, no? It's the reasoning behind these "cliches" that's important, not the individual results that one can...

Would you rather make 3 million on your own or half that as . . .

Perhaps that is closer to reality in general, but I was referring to being part of a team and employing larger scale strategies that are just impossible to do as an individual trader. I know the proposition is unrealistic but it's just a counterpoint to the other thread -- there must be a...

Would you rather make 3 million on your own or half that as . . .

I'd make a distinction between going off on your own and collecting OPM for your own hedge fund, and really going out as an individual trading his or her own capital. I honestly don't know if what one generally learns at a desk is really helpful for trading individual capital -- what you learn...

Would you rather make 3 million on your own or half that as . . .

That was my pretty much my point, I think I can spend the rest of my career making money off of what is essentially "noise" -- I'm talking about getting the bigger picture behind all that.
