If it's true that YM has been leading ES, then wouldn't it be easy to push the thinner index in order to obtain better prices for the broader one, if most traders recognize the relationship already?

I think so because you are mentally prepared. If you believe the deck has only face cards, you might want to bet it all -- but what if you're wrong? What is your priority in trading the markets, comfort or profit?

I think applying swing trading methods for intraday time frames doesn't work very well, it's difficult to do both simultaneously in any case.

Statistics doesn't ensure fixed future parameters or results. If you need trading to be "not gambling", you are setting yourself up for disappointment in the long run.

I think both sides have a point; starting out it might be wise to keep things intraday, but as you progress and build up your capital you will realize that having to open and exit trades within the regular session is an artificial constraint, and you will eventually need to learn to carry longer...

I think to accurately measure skill aka timing ability, you could only make accurate comparisons if everyone traded a certain amount of contracts per dollar -- give several traders a single contract maximum over a certain period of time and it will probably be easy to see the differences...

The main difference is leverage. You can win/lose multiples faster than in equities, so be smart about how/when you use it. The hard part is that there really is no guideline about how many contracts one should trade given a certain account size. You can play it very conservatively given X...

If you're trading futures on an individual level, you can pretty much throw percentage returns out the window, they are meaningless. They should never figure into your strategy as a goal, a target, a measure of success etc. There are those with strategies that require large accounts of opm...

I think it's pretty rare for an independent trader not to experience an account meltdown at least once while climbing the curve. Better earlier than later, imo :)
