    The Movie Thread

Now for the important questions . . . Transformers: how are they going to deal with conservation of mass? How does Megatron turn into a little pistol that another decepticon can hold in his hand?? Where does Optimus Prime's trailer go when he's in robot form???

Spydertrader's Jack Hershey Futures Trading Journal

If it's true that YM has been leading ES, then wouldn't it be easy to push the thinner index in order to obtain better prices for the broader one, if most traders recognize the relationship already?

Is trading Gambling or not .."What say You" Vote here.

I think so because you are mentally prepared. If you believe the deck has only face cards, you might want to bet it all -- but what if you're wrong? What is your priority in trading the markets, comfort or profit?

One of the reasons I like Position Trading

I think applying swing trading methods for intraday time frames doesn't work very well, it's difficult to do both simultaneously in any case.

Is trading Gambling or not .."What say You" Vote here.

Statistics doesn't ensure fixed future parameters or results. If you need trading to be "not gambling", you are setting yourself up for disappointment in the long run.

    Transition to Futures

I think both sides have a point; starting out it might be wise to keep things intraday, but as you progress and build up your capital you will realize that having to open and exit trades within the regular session is an artificial constraint, and you will eventually need to learn to carry longer...

    professional career vs. trader

Usually (well, I've seen it in a couple places) a dentist is used as a foil to the volatile nature of a trader's life, so it's surprising to see someone seriously debating between the two extremes. I think you'd really need to have a natural appetite/aptitude for risk-taking and unsteady...

    US Govt Sanctioned Loan-Sharking

The gov't would prefer if all transactions took place via cards.

Yep, I think they use it as a screening test. If you don't assume he's an idiot and walk out of the office in the next 3 minutes, then he's got a good mark.

Calculating your performance from how much you bagged in % of the range...

I've always thought that you can build tremendous wealth by just capturing a fraction of what the markets offer each day, most of the time I have no clue what the hell is going on (and to be fair, perhaps a good part of the time there really is nothing to do) but I just want to get that certain...

Calculating your performance from how much you bagged in % of the range...

I think to accurately measure skill aka timing ability, you could only make accurate comparisons if everyone traded a certain amount of contracts per dollar -- give several traders a single contract maximum over a certain period of time and it will probably be easy to see the differences...

Why is it so hard to beat the market?

Well it begs the question, why and to whom would you need these figures for, if you are just intent on trading your own account? (I continued the reply on that thread).

    Transition to Futures

The main difference is leverage. You can win/lose multiples faster than in equities, so be smart about how/when you use it. The hard part is that there really is no guideline about how many contracts one should trade given a certain account size. You can play it very conservatively given X...

Why is it so hard to beat the market?

If you're trading futures on an individual level, you can pretty much throw percentage returns out the window, they are meaningless. They should never figure into your strategy as a goal, a target, a measure of success etc. There are those with strategies that require large accounts of opm...

    professional career vs. trader

Is it because some dentists are close cousins to snake-oil salesmen? The body's ability to re-calcify small caries is broadly underestimated . . .

    professional career vs. trader

Isn't it kinda difficult to "get in the back door" from independent trader to an institution? Not that I've any ambitions, but I have a hunch that no matter what numbers I could show, no bank would ever hire someone like me. If it were my own kid(s) who showed an interest in the markets, I...

    Blow Outs.

I think it's pretty rare for an independent trader not to experience an account meltdown at least once while climbing the curve. Better earlier than later, imo :)
