World Poker Tour -- Atlantic City

I have heard that there is a huge difference in level of play from say 5-10 vs 10-20 and 10-20 vs 20-40, but that if one were to play too long at 2-4 one would develop habits which might not be advantageous at higher tables. In other words, low-limit hold'em can be seen as a separate class...

World Poker Tour -- Atlantic City

Thanks alot for the tips! And I completely agree about the similarities with trading -- the only big difference for me is that I very rarely get a chance to play at a casino, and end up staying longer than I should only because I most likely won't be able to go back again for a month or so...

Is there any reason why technical analysis would work

You're right, the volume component of an h&s top is key in reading the pattern. The reason there is no volume is because the chart was of an index (BKX banking); substitute Citigroup (C) for a daily chart and you can see lower volume on the right shoulder peak vs the head.

Question for those hold-em players out there: Do you guys find that the 5-10 games are sometimes easier to play than the 2-4's? From my limited experience, it seems that with 2-4 there is much less reward for "good" play, as those lower limit tables seem to have a greater percentage of loose...

World Poker Tour -- Atlantic City

Is there any casino that has frequent no-limit tourneys where one can hone his skills before the big tournament? I understand that there are no regular "no-limit" tables in typical casino rooms.

    DMI/ADX consistently works

Just curious, if you can make .02 to .05 cents based on derivative indicators, couldn't you make a bit more just reading the price action of the stock itself? What percentage of a typical move do you look to capture? Thanks.

Is there any reason why technical analysis would work

Here is an example of a typical chart pattern everyone knows, the head-and-shoulders top. It has not exactly fully formed yet, but one can extrapolate the neckline since the right shoulder has already turned. The problem is, if one trades by the "rules" of the pattern, one would short the...

When too many people are looking at the same thing to get into/out of trades?

    Outside capital an advantage?

When trading futures, I am technically always trading "scared", because I know that one can blowout on any given day (try losing 50% or more of your capital intraday in a stock account, would be pretty difficult -- in futures that possibility exists every single day). So even with the most...

    Trade this Chart

Wait for the breakout on either side, then see if conditions are right to fade that breakout :)

    Outside capital an advantage?

I've been trading family money for 4 years now, that has never been a point of stress. But I suppose the question is moot at this time for soliciting institutional capital without a longer track record. But say that you had a few years of good returns under your belt, and by that time the...

    Outside capital an advantage?

Assuming the following: 1. You have a proven system/edge which has shown excellent gains over a relatively short period of time (6 months). 2. You are confident that you are capable of continued geometric gains at a smaller account size (up to mid-six figures), and smaller but...

Is there any reason why technical analysis would work

Nice post oldtrader. I think the "classic" patterns out of McGee Edwards used to work because at the time of publication not too many people had access to instant historical information, and the movements which frequently occured were just naturally based on exhaustion of supply and demand...

    Is it really an Edge?

Careful, commissions generated from scalping can make an enormous difference. A scalper who makes 10 trades/day needs to net 1 1/2 points each day for 20 days to keep up with a single trend trade (for futures).

    The Truth about Daytrading Futures..

Sorry for confusion, maximization was in reference to maintaining and adjusting one's system to keep up with market changes, not maximization of size or leverage. But if one has an edge he should not be afraid to raise his size in accordance with his increasing capitall, instead of limiting...

    The Truth about Daytrading Futures..

To an extent I agree AMT, if one has an edge he or she should only be limited by available liquidity (at least over 100 contracts on ES intraday), and until that point is reached one's gains should be geometric not arithmetic. If the same trader feels stuck at a certain profit per day or month...

    The Truth about Daytrading Futures..

Trend Fader, I think there are traders who have extraordinary edges in intraday eminis, the only thing is if they actually posted their results here, no one would believe them. And since they'd most likely not be crazy enough to reveal exactly what their edge is on a public message board --...

    The Truth about Daytrading Futures..

Just because someone's avg is .5pts/trade doesn't mean he or she is making a consistent .5 on every trade; more likely it's a wide range of days, with extremes of +8pt gains all the way to blowouts of -10 or more (esp considering commissions). Now throw in the tendency for traders to push...

    The Truth about Daytrading Futures..

Some thoughts: -- There are edges to be found in any market, in any time frame -- intraday emini trading is no different. And you can be sure there are traders out there taking advantage on a daily basis. -- I agree that a true, consistent edge is extremely difficult to extract for the...
