    IB margin valuation way off

I talked to 2 reps who stated at first that "your account went below maintenance and was therefore liquidated, there is nothing you can do." Finally when I asked a rep to humor me and explain exactly how much money was needed to hold a certain amount of contracts, I was suddenly told that...

    IB margin valuation way off

I would just like to know if they are truly regarding this as a "glitch" or if they are just saying to hell with YI and YG traders. If it's the former, I would like to have them just fix the error in valuation because otherwise I think they are a great firm to trade with. All of it comes...

    IB margin valuation way off

Is it legal to value your account in such a way that is completely way off actual liquidation values? For example, the way IB calculates account value is completely f***ed up. If you are holding silver march 04 contracts right now, the account management software will show that they are worth...

Heavier snow hotter economy higher stocks

Retailers just lost a bunch of orders this weekend to online vendors sitting snug at home, I don't think this storm helped anyone but amazon, ebay etc.

    Physical Gold

Yes I'd like an explanation for that too. If Baron does not give one I will have to assume that it was government censorship trying to keep people from panicking. This assumption will be confirmed upon harrytrader's sudden disappearance from this board. jk harry :)

    Today's BONDS!

Loved the little head-fake lower a few seconds before the actual release -- same thing seemed to happen in October's employment report as well (in reverse).

    Dollar Danger

As China becomes an increasingly larger consumer of raw materials, the biggest problem for this country IMO is that we may start seeing inflation come with none of the domestic growth that usually generates it. The weaker dollar just exacerbates this problem, and raising our rates will most...

    Gold Ripe For Pullback?

I don't really see the "rising wedge" that makes you bearish; the daily chart and weekly chart both look almost identical in nature: ascending triangle breakouts, with a retest of the horizontal and subsequent trend up. Oh well, you say tomato, I say, er, tomato . . . :)

    Gold Ripe For Pullback?

If the trend of making gold easier to own continues, I wouldn't be surprised if one day we eventually see metals as the fourth asset class to own on the street (along with cash, stocks, and bonds). Who knows where the price would be if the mutual fund complex begins invest directly. Just a...

    Russell 2000

While we're on the topic, how exactly are most small-cap funds riding this index, thru an ETF or futures? How do market makers usually hedge in the russell, given that there are 2000 names in there. Are there a few names that account for the majority of the indexes moves that they can...

OPEC effectively pricing crude in euros?

I'm a total newb when it comes to the oil market, but if OPEC's desired range for crude has been 22-28 dollar, and if economic activity is as on fire as the reports and equity markets would have us believe, then why is OPEC considering further cuts? Is it simply that at the current price oil is...

    $$$MR. MARKET$$$'s proof

Like I said before, if you go long QQQ's, NQ's, COMPX futs, SMH, BBH today and sell them all next week for gains, I wouldn't really count them as 5 "consecutive" winning trades. You may have caught some nice moves in a bunch of small-caps, but I'm sure many of the holding periods overlap...
