    Oil vs exports

Could Japan stepping away from intervention be due to concerns that a higher local price of oil could eventually become a greater threat to the economy than weaker exports due to a strong currency? One European official has already cited that energy price is the greater threat to growth.

    News?

If foreigner's are unwilling to buy more treasuries, then could be seen as weakening dollar demand (due to intervention etc).

    radeon 7000

Thanks for the advice all, but I think I'm just going to exchange the card for an Nvidia that's comparable, someone at customer service told me that it might be the old nvidia drivers that are conflicting with the ATI driver. In any case, I'm just gonna take the easy way out.

    radeon 7000

I just bought this card for my 4-yr old dell w/21" trinitron monitor, at first the settings were stuck on 60mhz refresh rate but I changed the monitor type and changed it to 75mhz. However, the screen doesn't seem to change and still flickers as if 60mhz. Any tips out there?

If trading's not leisure, why be a trader?

Great post! That's one thing that I've started to discover and appreciate only recently about trading, the creative element of it. To the outside world (and perhaps to some/most traders too) it may just look like a bunch of numbers going up and down, but to be able to coalesce the chaos into...

    IB's year end statement

I've been filing as trader for 5 yrs now, but this is first year trading commodities almost exclusively. My accountant was worried about my status because I had very little reported under sched D gross sales, so just wanted to make sure it was all right to just have single line profit/loss...

    IB's year end statement

When it comes to filing as a trader, what do you need to send for commodities trades? Just printout the entire year-end statement? Or do you just need to provide net profit/loss for section 1256 contracts?

how about this nice discreet selloff into the close?

"from nowhere" meant the timing of the selloff, not "for no reason". AQ claiming the attack (which btw is not confirmed at all), in terms of market action, seems to be the superficial reason we reversed the gains. However, I really can't believe that the market didn't consider AQ a possible...

how about this nice discreet selloff into the close?

We were due for a nice bounce today but this "broken" rhythm of market action is a bit creepy. Though exogenous jitters are high, nothing really needs to occur except everyone selling only because everyone else is -- it comes from out of nowhere and just catches everyone off guard. If they can...

    CNBC - Invest in Japan

Anyone see that cheesy "Invest in Japan" bit that airs a few times everyday? Nice how PM Koizumi can come on TV and ask for Americans to invest their money in Japan (i.e. buy yen) while simultaneously selling billions against their dollars -- someone call Elliot Spitzer!! :)

waggie, you are about to overtake harrytrader as the best threadkiller on ET -- can we stick to the subject and not have every other post be you sparring with your fanclub? :) [edit: ok, I see that your name is mentioned as a source for the start of this thread -- nvm, flame away as you like...

    Buffet

So a trader that you hold in high esteem suddenly blows out, and from that moment on you'll thumb your nose at him? Why not try learning from his mistake, along with everything else he had to offer you before that moment? Those great traders who have put themselves out there and have taught...

    Fear

Trading for a living is a relentless occupation, I've known a few people (myself included) who, after a few years of good profitability and thinking "I've finally made it", went back to square one after market conditions shifted from what I was "used to". There's no greater truth to the line...

    Japan Now Ruling The Globe

Economic recovery has sometimes very little to do with currency appreciation, there are many past examples of this. All those bullish reasons you cite are the same ones that had speculators buying yen at 120, so your one lot at 109 doesn't really help me want to believe your case :)...

    Yen

I tried going long a few times in between 109-111, last entry was 112 and holding. I'm bullish on Yen but realize BOJ can print all the yen it likes until it turns into confetti. Quite a wild day today in all majors.
