    Oil vs exports

    Poker and the Beginning Trader

I'm recognizing this fact as one of the biggest impediments to overcome if I'm to continue trading for a living and actually enjoy what I do. No matter how fast my equity is rising on a good streak, I frequently still feel frustrated that I didn't take out or keep more than I could have from...

    Holy sh*t!

some of you guys need to relax :) here's a clue: if you need to get into pissing contests on an internet trading forum to support your own ego, you are definitely not making enough money off your trading *lol*

    High oil prices

I don't think the middle east accepts yen for oil -- I believe they leave the exchange risk to the purchasing nation and only take dollars. International trade is just easier using a single "reserve" currency without having to pay the bid/ask spread to some bank for every transaction, at least...

    High oil prices

Convertibility is not the issue, it's the eventual value of the relative currencies that's at hand. Why do you think 2/3 of world currency reserves are in dollars? How do you think US manages to have its enormous debt financed by other nations? A shift in pricing of oil from dollars to...

    High oil prices

I think Japan's MoF has concluded that higher energy costs are the greater threat to the economy rather than weakening exports, so they will allow for stronger yen. Japan is second largest importer of crude with virtually no domestic resource.

newspaper article are the best contra indicator

I think the contrarian media play is kinda overblown -- how many articles about the new era bull market came out around 96 or so? How many dentists got into daytrading in 98 before the nazzy doubled etc? Put it this way, whenever a market makes an extraordinary run, the media will want to...

    Consolidation is over

Didn't we just bounce 70 NDX points in 4 days? Admit it wags, you are one permabull! :p

    Consolidation is over

I'm not talking permabull or bear either, just what I see. Some use fibonaccis, others the 200 day MA, some others just say the bearish sentiment got a bit ahead of itself last week. As for looking ahead, shorting the 50-day MA that coincides with a falling trendline (QQQ) into a quarter...

Best way to convert cap. gains into earned income?

File as a full-time trader and take mark-to-market election --converts subsequent capital gains into business income.

    Consolidation is over

People seem to be quite bullish all of a sudden after a couple days of bounce. But I'd guess what was once support is now resistance, Q's kissing the 50-day MA from below seems more like a shorting opportunity (go with the trend, right guys?) :) JMO

    Great Depression II (2000-201?)

I'd think experience trading in any market would lead one to conclude that any weakness/strength of a market can go much further than previously imaginable -- especially currencies. Any number of events can contribute to the dollar plunging sharply (e.g. nuclear terrorism), and even a further...

    Great Depression II (2000-201?)

Cross ownership between banks and other corporations has always been a problem, but with foreign appetites for Japanese equities growing, they may be able to unload those shares onto willing buyers -- it's an old issue that has long since been priced into the Nikkei by now imo.

    Great Depression II (2000-201?)

Probably a more likely scenario will be that US remains in a stagnant period because of our enormous public and personal debt levels, yet other parts of the world may continue to grow strongly -- most likely Japan + China, and perhaps even India further down the line. Eventually the huge...

    Help! Name that album

Ever have an old album you listened to as a child but can't remember the name of the band/songs etc? Here's all I can remember: -- The band is most likely early to mid 70's, pseudo-political folk rock, not averse to using gimmicky effects like ambulance sirens and a dying man's heartbeat...
