    Windows XP Clock Losing Time

Could also be the quartz crystal oscillator resonance frequency has drifted, although, I would assume the RTC should also sync up to small drifts. Or there is often a pre-scalar that can be set in the RTC IC to recalibrate to the frequency drift, if you know how to set it. If you have access...

What happens to a market when everyone is long?

too bad you don't know what 95% of retail traders are really betting.:D I'd say a fairly large sample are scrambling to cover or praying right about now. 2003 all over again. Look it up in your history books.

BAR BY BAR -- Al Brooks

Hi Black Swan, I think there is some truth in the statement you posited, regarding your friend. There already exist subject areas that address this issue, commonly known as optimization. To make it very brief, you generally want to operate on the flatter (I call it mesa) portion of a...

BAR BY BAR -- Al Brooks

An example of how I look at some of these ideas from a systematic/objective perspective. At the very open he makes an assertion to go long on trending (large white body) and short on trending (large red body). Likewise, dojis are considered trading ranges. To make it somewhat objective, in...

Anyone up for collaberating on replicating Chan scripts in Python?

VBA has some limitations and some advantages. I won't argue the philosophies here. But I can tell you that building a full blown back-tester is not impossible in vba. I'll leave it there. If you have not done a lot of programming, I suggest to skip the lower level languages like c#/java etc...

Anyone up for collaberating on replicating Chan scripts in Python?

YES! Do not be afraid of R, if you are not a programming guru. Take a little time to play with it; buy a simple book to try examples: http://www.amazon.com/Introductory-Statistics-R-Computing/dp/0387790535/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1252269370&sr=8-1 I mentioned the 1st book, because...

Anyone up for collaberating on replicating Chan scripts in Python?

Between R and RM, R is much more flexible and IMO, easier to use. Rapid Miner does not have much literature last I checked, either. It takes a while to understand how to put things together on RM; and if you aren't already proficient in data mining concepts, you will have a hard time...

    Equity pairs trading ratios

It's not as simple as you are assuming. Suggest learning about hedge ratios and co-integration a bit. I recommend picking up Chan's quantitative trading book for a nice layman's description and practical examples that can be replicated.

Anyone up for collaberating on replicating Chan scripts in Python?

Some OS; some not. If you really want to try to start learning a very capable OS tool for data mining, I'd recommend R.

Anyone up for collaberating on replicating Chan scripts in Python?

Hi. I use several (including custom), although I'd prefer not to divulge specifics. Rapidminer was capable and a program I shared the time to pick up (on the other thread) and offered others to participate, but ultimately, like this thread-- lots of eyeballs, not much participation...

    Is R worth learning?

Just about any program can test just about any strategy you can dream up. You can do just about anything in excel. The difficulty comes from being able to describe what it is you want to do, and having the knowledge to implement it. To OP. If you want a tool with the functions you requested...

Has anyone read 'inside the black box?"

It received many glowing reviews on amazon. Yet one reviewer, pointed out they were likely bogus. Has anyone actually read it? What are your thoughts? Thanks. http://www.amazon.com/Inside-Black-Box-Quantitative-Trading/dp/0470432063/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1252090887&sr=1-1

    Google launchs domestic trends analytics

There have been years of development relating to text/blog/news information relationships. Lots of research already done in this area. Some of the older work is discussed in the layman's book, "Nerds on Wall Street."

    Larry Williams Million Dollar Challenge

No offense, and forgive me for barging in on the drama; but I am starting to wonder if the defensive poster is truly LW. Considering he was competent enough to at least write and publish as much as he has, I cannot seem to reconcile the lack of critical thinking that this poster appears to...

POLL: Do you think Larry Williams is a charlatan?

Even in light of the results, you still manage to maintain your sense of humor and wit. I was RFLMAO at that footnote. For what it's worth, you're still one of the sharpest tacks on ET's roster, and one reason I stick around. Don't let the somnambulists discourage you.:) However, was it...
