    CQG versus IQFeed

I have just connected to a broker's CQG data feed and have noticed a significant difference between my volume delta indicators when powered by CQG versus my IQFeed. Anyone seeing this too or have comments? TIA EL

    Reducing Size after Extreme Profitability

I don't think its wise but most newer traders (and some older ones too) do it as they don't want to give profits back. It's an emotional not a tradecraft decision, usually. The "correct" trade management is to maintain your risk per trade equally for all trades, adjusting size to balance...

What is the best way to learn how to day trade?

Do what doctors, lawyers, brain surgeons and any other person wanting to learn a skill would do: GET SOMEONE TO TEACH YOU. It's a lot cheaper in the long run. Expecting to teach yourself a skill that can earn you thousands of dollars a week for a lifetime with little capital in an arena where...

Who believes there isn't a Gold bubble right now?

You guys are all looking at this from a too American point of view. Look at the gold price in terms of, say, the Swiss Franc. In about 1970 I got about 4 1/2 Swiss Francs for my US$. Look at it today. A four to five fold devaluation of the $. Its not gold that's going up, its the US$...

Backtesting and Strategy Validation - How Much is Enough?

I've got to chime in Algo Kid. The process of creating an algo requires skill. Trading requires skill. The majority of traders fail. I would also guess that the majority of autotraders fail. Why do auto traders fail? Probably because they trade indicators not markets. Or because they try and...

Backtesting and Strategy Validation - How Much is Enough?

SnakeEYE, there are a number of platforms out there that use a psudo code for implimenting strategies. Does require a bit of work but then you have something you know intimately. I'm no programmer but create algos in easylanguage (multicharts) and RTL )MarketDelta). I can't get to first base...

Backtesting and Strategy Validation - How Much is Enough?

I don't do that. It's not in your best interest. I'll teach you how to create your own and I'll show you mine. You need to "own" your trades and I strongly believe that unless you intimately know and understand the trading logic behind and algo, you cannot have the discipline to trade it and...

Backtesting and Strategy Validation - How Much is Enough?

That's great, but by using the algos to enter trades I can trade several markets at the same time without missing anything. Also, I have students who take too long to recognise what is happening. The algo does that part of the job without analysis paralysis. An experienced consistently...

Backtesting and Strategy Validation - How Much is Enough?

Have a look at the video on my blog and you'll see what I mean. There is a button on the top left of the chart that allows me, with one click, to turn the automation on and off when conditions require it. Entries and exits are fully automatic but I don't stay passive. I get the instant trade...

    What is your edge?

I guess it depends on how the trading logic is constructed and whether there are built in dynamic adjustments to cope with changes in volatility, not just day to day but intra day. Most day trading algos, even if they are constructed to work in different modes at different times of day...

Backtesting and Strategy Validation - How Much is Enough?

The basis of my trading is trading the pullbacks in an identified trend of one chart. If you look at my blog (google my name), you'll see that I use 2 EMAs (33 & 99) as the basis of my trading. When these go horizontal and the bigCCI I use to judge pullbacks wanders about the zero line, I...

Backtesting and Strategy Validation - How Much is Enough?

As soon as an algo has optimisable inputs you are in trouble. The best algos depend on price action entries. The problem is compounded with exits. As soon as you use fixed stops and targets you have the issues of changes in volatility to contend with. The fall back position is to use...

    What is your edge?

My edge is identifying the trend and then trading a pullback in the direction of the trend. I know that it works because: 1. Extensive computer testing 2. Longtime realtime profitability 3. Methedology successfully duplicated by my students EL

Who has made it back from the bottom?

You need to completely re-build yourself after what has happened. The steps are fairly straightforward by require discipline to impliment. 1. Write down a comprehensive written in stone trading plan. 2. Back test the trading plan to prove its consistent profitability 3. include money...

    'Discretion' in discretionary trading

It's not "gut". A successful (read consistently profitable) discretionary trader has developed that "muscle memory" in his brain to recognise the trades and execute them in a timely manner without needing a lot of thought. This is a pure reaction to the picture he sees and is based on the almost...

    'Discretion' in discretionary trading

This is the key quote in this thread. Mechanical systems ret and put numbers against everything tp litoralize what is or can occur. The problem for the computer is, and what the discretionary trader solves is, that hwo you enter and exit is context dependent. When I teach students to trade...

I just want to trade profitabily

I guess no good turn goes unpunished. Pointing the OP to a good free resource of over 220 posts teaching you to trade seems to me trying to be helpful. As for my son's cancer, I truely wish I was lying.

I just want to trade profitabily

I started the blog as part of Kiki's training. It took on a life of its own and I got so many requests for mentoring I thought it was time to give something back to an industry that has been good to me, particularly to help provide a template for training that is successful. Part of the...

I just want to trade profitabily

Surdo Most of the information is in the blog for free and people have used to get to CP. Training is taking you through all the steps, exercises, mentoring and looking over your shoulder, critiquing, correcting etc. Very labour intensive for me. This training will last for almost 4 months.
