imo phone call is best option. even if you have to spend 20 min on hold. i'm actually very pleased with IB support here, on ET. it much faster, than ticket system. almost as good as phone call :)

try it, before saying it will take long time. as far as far i remember, yahoo alow you to get data for 200 symbols in one shoot. and it only take second or two. maybe even less than that. update of portfolio with 6000 stocks in it should take few seconds with good intenet.

i done it very long time ago in VB. for all US stocks it takes about 20-30 min with good internet speed. let me check, if function i have still works(if i could find it)))))), and if it is-i can share this data with you if you need it

you can do it in excel. grab earnings data from here- http://www.fulldisclosure.com/company.asp?client=cb&ticker=msft (i think, i have it somewhere on my computer) and run on free data from yahoo. not sure,how exactly you want to play it,but earnings surprise alone will be not enough.
