Having a brain fart on figuring out margin used based on stop?

It was fun. Looking at it now, it's (PnL) not (-PnL)... I did some copy and paste and didn't edit well % = [ (Units : 50 leverage) : {50 leva * [(initial balance) + (PnL) - (Units : 50 leva)]} ] x10 If it's a percentage of total avail margin... ($ margin required for the trade : total $...

Having a brain fart on figuring out margin used based on stop?

    Is this metric a % of margin used from your total available margin? % = [ (Units : 50 leverage) : {50 leva * [(initial balance) + (-PnL) - (Units : 50 leva)]} ] x10 which simplified should be something like: % = [ ($ margin required) : avail $ buying power (or available leveraged $ capital)...

Having a brain fart on figuring out margin used based on stop?

    I put a - for a + there... last time I did an equation smartphones were yet to be invented Margin= 10k trade : 50 leverage = 200 Cash available= 1k (balance) - (10k units : 50 leverage) = 800 Margin used = 1k balance - [1k (balance) - (10k units : 50 leverage)] = 200 including Pnl, let's...

You are SpxOptionTrader! those were his exact words... However, you could run a journal and let us have fun by watching the magic! that would be more interesting and useful than reading the same stories again like in groundhog day but with different names.

Having a brain fart on figuring out margin used based on stop?

Or...? X = Balance - {balance + open PnL - [(Base Currency / Account Currency) ✕ Units] / Leverage} This should give you Margin Used if I am not mistaken... Although we agree it's obvious you won't be allowed to go past your net balance.

    X = Balance - [Balance + open PnL - (trade notional value / leverage)]

Having a brain fart on figuring out margin used based on stop?

Oh sorry, misunderstood. You mentioned leverage of 50:1, and that reminds me of brokers like Oanda. With Oanda for example, you position will be liquidated if.it gets to -50% of your initial balance. In the example, -500$ will automatically close the position. Some other broker will let your...

    Baron's Crypto Trading Journal

Again with those useless tulips... Tulips are, were and will always be pratically useless. Way more useless than a simple formula like 2+2=4. Bitcoin is a bit more advanced than 2+2=4

Having a brain fart on figuring out margin used based on stop?

The margin is calculated on the position, not on your max risk. Stop loss won't have an effect on your margin. On EURUSD or other USD based pair, 1k account, 10k units (1mini or 0.1 lot), you are using 10k of the 50k buying power available with leverage. Whatever your stop.

Thanks for your perspective. On the second signal short of the swing, would you consider (or why not) the first reversal bar of the retracement? I am looking at the small lower high formed just before the bar with a signal, around 10:45am on the chart.

Bitcoin = Tulips? Not So Much

It's a pretty useless flower.... I see zero use case for a tulip. A basil plant, and all herbs in the world, are more useful than any tulip in the planet. Even shit has more utility than a tulip, as you can use it as a fertilizer and get food from it, and plenty of useless tulips. If you see...

When should the goal be to expire worthless?

If you are the buyer, you are losing all premium you paid for, when it expires worthless. If you are the seller, you keep it, as you don't have to pay back the premium (and maybe more) that the buyer paid you for, when it expires worthless.
