    Some basic questions about Forex

There are others here who can answer your carry questions better than me. On the rest, I think it depends on what you mean by "good return". Money can be made, even as a cash trade (i.e. non-leveraged). There are times when certain currencies appreciate quite a lot compared to the U.S...

    Is Stock Worth Anything ?

Because someone named Nine_Ender said so, of course ... without an argument. You'd think you'd at least try to make an argument. Does this kind of BS work where you live ? You just walk into a room and ... everything is nonsense because Nine_Ender said so ...

So, what is the end game with this never-ending U.S. public debt?

They'll burn the dollar, that's the only way out. It's time to relearn all the old lessons again, as happens every few generations.

    Best data api ?

If I do that I'm going to just write it from scratch, the data is simple, little more than a few numbers and a timestamp, so it would be very easy to ingest if I can find it available somewhere as text. Who sells this historical tick and level 2 data ? It'd be massive, of course, a huge amount...

Automated trading with R on IB

Why use R when IB has an API in C++ ?

A better programing platform or solution needed

IB's API is straightforward and easy to use. If you have to get into the API's code it's a bit hard to follow because of the classes and pthread'ing, but it is relatively lightweight.

Will MMT Economists Finally Get Their Day in the Sun?

Oh I know it doesn't concern them, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't. MMT is to a leftist what an all ice cream diet is to a fat person. It may not work, but it lets them do what they've wanted to do all along, so it doesn't really matter if it works or not.

Will MMT Economists Finally Get Their Day in the Sun?

Oh, and I'm in favor of MMT, btw. I don't think we will have a return to sound monetary policy until the debt is normalized. I don't feel there is any way to pay the debt off at this point, and I think that the move towards socialism is so far underway that it is pointless to try to resist it...

Will MMT Economists Finally Get Their Day in the Sun?

Wealth redistribution. Because every leftist economic plan is ultimately wealth redistribution. Merit is antithetical to their goals.

Ways to hedge against a heavy loss in extreme situations for a scalper

I don't see how there could be a solution for a huge gap. I mean, if today, right this moment, a nuclear bomb landed somewhere, the people with bids on the market would immediately cut those bids in half (for example). There's simply no way to get out of a trade at the price that was there...

    Best data api ?

Is it possible to make the IB software play back historical level 2, tick, etc data as if it were live data ?

Ways to hedge against a heavy loss in extreme situations for a scalper

Seems like the solution would be a smarter trading client (software). As you're entering into a position, the client could automatically keep track of that position and update a countering STOP position that is updated each time you update your position. So, for example, you buy 100 at 100, it...

    Is Stock Worth Anything ?

No, I asked what advantage does stock ownership convey other than dividends and the chance to trade in the hopes of having a capital gain ? I followed that up with another question, if the stock doesn't have a capital gain and pays no dividend, what's the &^%$ing point ? I admit that is a...

    EXACTLY.

    Is Stock Worth Anything ?

I'll stop pressing the point, because few seem to have the imagination to "get it", and leave with this one question .. If a stock is not appreciating (the company is not growing) and the company is not paying a dividend (and no future intention of paying a dividend) on their stock ... what...

    Is Stock Worth Anything ?

Because you say so ? Hardly. I think you'll find that if you do a search on this topic .. as I have done in the past two hours ... you'll find that none other than Warren Buffett is in agreement with me. And he's not the only one, there are a number of people who think individual investors...

    Is Stock Worth Anything ?

Sort of. What I'm really getting at is that most other investments DO have some kind of intrinsic value. 1) Life insurance, term or whole, if I die people get money. It is a practical thing that has actual value in my life. 2) Collectibles, art, cars, etc, you can hold them, enjoy them, they...
  19. E

    Is Stock Worth Anything ?

Yes and I know all of that, of course, but I'm talking about actual intrinsic value to an individual investor, not a theoretical, political, or philosophical kind of value. Given what you said, is THAT any value to an individual investor ? It helps them to prove to the greater fool that they...
