Significant Reduction in Petroleum / Gasoline Prices, HOW?

I'm not sure about that. There are refineries in southeastern Pennsylvania, yet gasoline is still high. My father lives within 5 miles of 4 refineries, yet after Katrina hit, gasoline popped just like it did everywhere in the country, even though he was buying, as he described it, gas that had...

Significant Reduction in Petroleum / Gasoline Prices, HOW?

It was interesting to read yesterday (on briefing.com, citing Reuters) that the US crude stockpiles are at their highest level since 1998. Yet crude and gasoline (looking at the August contracts) are each up 10% this year. As a libertarian coworker puts it: - if you charge $2.00/gallon, you...

    Vonage

Maybe when there's ubiquitous WiFi or Wimax. For now, having to pay $30/month on top of the cost of your broadband connection doesn't seem like it will attract the masses. Also, selling something everyone wants doesn't guarantee success - look at T and VZ. Or WRSP. Another strike against...

Do VIX options have any delta at all?

With VIX at $15.70, July $12.50 calls were $3.00x$3.40. With VIX up to $16.45, the options are up to $3.20x$3.60. My platform says delta should be 1.00, but obviously the price seems to have little to do with that. And the July 10 calls have been $5.60x$6.00 all day. How do people trade...

    IB commission quesiton

OK, I see Yip uses Ameritrade. It's $13.70 to trade 5 options instead of IB's $3.75, but if you tend to cancel more than 8 times for every fill I see how it can be less expensive. I still use Ameritrade once in awhile, but I've found that, when trying to get a price inside the spread, having...

question about Interactive brokers demo account...

I run a webtrader paper trading account, and have found the quotes to be reliable except during the past few weeks, after the new webtrader was rolled out, the quotes for some stocks and futures randomly freeze. Clicking on Edit Market View, then clicking Market View, gets them up-to-date again.

Why IB allow buy lmt order for price about last price?

I do this a lot. Some brokers will warn you if your limit order is above the current best bid. In my case, it usually *is* my buy order - my unfiilled buy order - that is the current best bid, and I'm raising it in an attempt to get filled.

I'm a victim of serious online fraud at brokerage

I can't see how selling stock that you didn't buy could do anything but complicate matters. One of my brokers (the same one I mentioned in a previous post) once accidentally placed a $40K buy order and fill into my account. The transactions appeared in my execution log as I watched, and I...

I'm a victim of serious online fraud at brokerage

I don't know about TDW specifically, but some brokers allow you to overdraw your account because you're allowed 3 days to send them the money. One of my brokers where I have a margin account makes most orders go through a manual approval process once you go over your overnight buying power, yet...

    From Borowitz....

BUSH PRESSES FED CHIEF FOR HIKE IN APPROVAL RATING by Andy Borowitz In what insiders described as a heated, occasionally testy Oval Office meeting, President George W. Bush today pressed Federal Reserve Board chairman Ben Bernanke for a one percent increase in his approval rating...

TD Waterhouse is it what hey say?

Since TDW and Ameritrade have merged, it's likely that their fees and platforms will converge as well, so you might look at what the Ameritrade side currently has to offer. Similar platform as TradeCentral, but don't need to do as many trades/month to get free Level II and news.

Interactive Brokers. The required amount of information?

I had a nice experience opening a bank (not brokerage) account at Countrywide a few months ago. Everything was done online on their web site (except for mailing in the deposit). I just had to enter my name, address, SSN, and some info from my driver's license. No faxing photo IDs or anything...

    ESCL, stamped out.

I bought a bit last week (couldn't resist a PE of 3 even though I knew the revenues are likely going down by at least 2/3) and sold after the spike the other day. No holdings now. Had I read that 2005 article about them in Barron's beforehand, I never would have bought.

    BSOD's

It's probably still under warranty, so call Dell. They might request that you reload the OS and all applications to rule out any bad software (video card driver, virus, antivirus), but if you keep after them they will replace any bad hardware that you've got. In my experience, crashes are...
