Roger that... from what I've read, that's how Google got started. Larry and Sergey wired as many old PCs as they can find to index the internet. The rest... as they say... is history. We have the computer power. We are just waiting for a killer trading app. :D You see... I don't want...

Forget about PCI. It is an old technology being phased out at the moment. Read up on the PCI Express Technology. On new motherboards you won't find PCI bus any more. :)

Very nice job Sam! Looks like you have a motherboard that is micro-ATX and the case is capable of taking ATX. Have a lot of room inside. :)

Best multi-monitor PC's for day trading?

I agree that speeding up the boot up time by 30 seconds or whatever is not that relevant. But for trading apps that do a lot of disk I/O for price data caching or storing temporary results it certainly helps to have faster disk I/O speeds.

Thanks for your comments Sam. Too bad I am not a gamer. Or else I can tell you all about the best kick-ass 3D cards to buy for your trading computer! :D :D I am thinking about buying Microsoft's Flight Simulator. That's about the extent of my game wish.

Don't remind me! Near final time of my FORTRAN IV class, I dropped a deck of about 300 of these punch cards on the floor in the school's computer room. That mishap costed me all night to resort all the FORTRAN statements and data cards.

I still remember my old XT. http://www.notanon.com/retro/dusting-off-my-new-old-ibm-pc-xt/2010/06/03/ Keyboard... connected with a DIN connector (before mini-DIN 6). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DIN_connector Mouse? That would cost you a RS-232 serial port. A DB9 connector...

I can see that from the IDE grey ribbon cable. LOL :D I had retired my similar boxes with Athlon processor and AGP/PCI bus. Let my wife use one for her internet surfing. Gave one to brother-in-law for his digital photography stuff. Gave one to 6-year old nephew to run kiddy programs...

    External Hard Drive Transfer Rates

Windows 7 has a "Home Group" feature. Fairly easy to use. If you have a USB (or internal) disk drive hooked up to it, you can create a Home Group and share that disk drive with other computers running Windows 7.

    External Hard Drive Transfer Rates

Oh okay. Yes that will work. The 1000 Mbps is only from the disk drive to your wireless router. It's the gigabit Ethernet speed. But from your wireless router to your laptop and your wife's laptop, it is much slower. If you have a wireless G router, the maximum speed is 54 Mbps. If you...

    External Hard Drive Transfer Rates

You said you were looking for a wireless hard drive. The link you provided has only an Ethernet connection. It means you would need to plug in a RJ45 cord into it. = = = = = Drive Connectivity: Ethernet Data Transfer Rate to/from Interface: Up to 1000 MBps = = = = =

Best multi-monitor PC's for day trading?

Never believe these 4 second reboot marketing gimmicks. Maybe for DOS. I run Windows 7 on 2 computers with SSD. In reality the boot up time is about 30 seconds or so. By the time you type in the password and login to Windows, it will be about 60 seconds before you can start your app. And...

How many Monitors can I connect to This Desktop ?

I have another idea. Your Dell box has 3 PCIe X1 slots. You can buy some older Quadro NVS 285 or 290 or 295 cards with PCIe X1 interface. Like this one: http://www.overstock.com/Electronics/PNY-Quadro-285-NVS-PCI-express-128-MB-Video-Card/4835934/product.html?cid=123620 This card uses...

How many Monitors can I connect to This Desktop ?

The only practical way is you open up the case of your Dell computer and take measurements and compare them to the specs of the video card. I don't want to rely on pictures on the Internet to give bad advices. Besides, you can't determine the clearance from just looking at the motherboard...

How many Monitors can I connect to This Desktop ?

Yes. That "should" work. (Never know for sure until you try.) Depending on the manufacturers, some support up to 6 external monitors via their USB-to-DVI adapters. Note that my experience had it: not all of these USB-to-DVI/VGA adapters are good for the 1920x1080 resolution EVEN THOUGH...

How many Monitors can I connect to This Desktop ?

I didn't say it's cheap. The OP wants 6 monitors on a computer that has 1 PCIe X16 slot.

So the question is: if you get one fx3500 and 2 NVS 295 and they don't work together, what do you plan to do? Send back the fx3500 to the seller? Do you have that option?
