    Broker safety

I am not kidding. As for the examples you used, one of my accounts is with TD Ameritrade which I consider safe but not on par with IB. I have had an account with Fidelity and closed it some years back due to questionable order entry practices. As for S&P, I for sure do not trust their ratings...

    Broker safety

I think Interactive Brokers (IB) is the safest place to hold cash and shares. IB is also a self clearing broker. At this time I would be concerned about Penson as a clearing firm although one of my accounts is with a broker that clears through Penson (I could decide to close that account due to...

    RIP Thinkorswim

TDAT's business model has been and now is what you describe as (1). I do not see that changing. The $9.99 ticket charge per equity order fits their model and is here to stay in my opinion. I see TOS being negatively impacted by this acquisition in the longer time frame. TDAT will try to not...

    RIP Thinkorswim

TDAT was telling me 2 years ago that they were working on becoming a FCM. Fast forward to now, it seems if TDAT is expecting to be a FCM in the near future they would have waited on the integration of TOS until after becoming a FCM.

    RIP Thinkorswim

Interactive Brokers charges half a cent per share with a dollar minimum charge. For me that is cheaper than using MB Trading to fill the same orders.

    RIP Thinkorswim

I think TDAT does value and want the business of futures traders. It is taking TDAT longer to become a futures clearing merchant than TDAT had originally thought. I expect TDAT to eventually become a FCM and no longer need the services of Penson GHCO for futures clearing. I would rather have...

    Think or swim problem today

Much better to not have a problem that a client hopes the broker will resolve in their favor.

    Think or swim problem today

I have had much worse problems with some brokers and clearing firms I have used during my 39 years of trading. The really bad ones I am quick to remember were with UBS, Southwest Securities, JPR Capital, Penson Financial Services, RJT.com, and Fidelity. Open a account with IB and you should be...

Is IB safe enough to use as a bank for > 500,000 USD?

You could leave 250K in the bank and move the excess to IB. You could split the money between several banks (preferably not more than 100K per bank). I do not know if the rules on the 250K limit have changed but I remember reading the rules applicable when the government first started the 250K...

    Penson sale of UK Clearing

I think PNSN could be looking at being delisted. I would expect being delisted would bring an end to Penson as a clearing firm.

Start an IB account, or stick with MB Trading?

I come down rather hard on MBT but in all fairness MBT's backoffice problems with futures may well be entirely be due to clearing futures through Penson Financial Services. MBT does not have the back-office problems with stocks. I guess Ross Ditlove is patiently waiting and hoping Penson will...

Quote Tracker Not Getting All T/S From IB

The observation of the year. This statement made my day. I can"t stop laughing. I am going to go get a good workout.

Start an IB account, or stick with MB Trading?

Your experience has sure been different than mine. I have been trading since 1972 through many brokers and have never experienced any broker customer services that comes close to being as bad as that of MBT. Letting Kevin in MBT customer service continue to answer the customer service phone...

Start an IB account, or stick with MB Trading?

I decided I did not want to trade Forex and that trading currency futures was the better way for me to trade currencies. So, I cannot give you an opinion on MBT or IB for Forex only trading. I would open the account with IB and keep the MBT account until I made up my mind. I have had a bunch of...

Interactive brokers liquidate with 1 Minute notice while wire is on the way.

I agree with you. I have found futures have been kinder to me than a bunch of company insiders of a publicly traded company.

Interactive brokers liquidate with 1 Minute notice while wire is on the way.

The auto-liquidation is one of the many policies I like at IB. This helps protect me and my account from my actions, protects my account from the lack of actions of other IB clients, and protects IB as a viable broker. I feel IB is by far the safest broker I use because of the way IB runs and...

    anyone use realtick

I used RealTick for 10 years. RealTick was free for me, but I quit using it in favor of QuoteTracker which I like much better. RealTick workes well but I do not think it is worth the price if one had to pay the full regular monthly charges.
