Trading rules based on linear regression

I only buy stocks that have prices going up. If they go down I sell them. If they keep going up, I keep them until they start going down.

    Reversion to the Mean

Hmmm. That's one of the core principles in options trading isn't it? Each market has an "average" or "typical" volatility. When volatility gets out of whack with the average, you look to capitalize on it be either being net long or net short implied volatility.

    Feasting on Amaranth's portfolio

Hmmm. Sounds strangely like what happened to Cramer's fund as recounted in "Confessions of a Street Addict".

Anybody else's ER2 quotestream from IB go down today?

My empirical observation was that Globex has been very reliable. It's the first outage I've personally seen. ECBOT on the other hand seems to be having problems recently. Enough that it'd make me leery of trading YM. It's always a risk with electronic trading that you'll end up with open...

    Reversion to the Mean

Here is a chart example: In this case I'm using 1.5 and 3.0 SD for another purpose, but the point is the same. <img src=http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/attachment.php?s=&postid=1205876>

    Reversion to the Mean

Another example is using linear regression channels. Identify a trend by drawing a LR line through the price bars. Set parallel channel lines to this LR line at, say, 1 and 2 standard deviations above and below. One approach is to trade trend continuation by waiting for price to move...

Strictly speaking, ALY should be in the FU based on its standings in the stocktables rankings and its wealth-lab ranking. But ALY trades on AMEX, which spydertrader doesn't like. Spydertrader, could you comment on this? You've referred to AMEX as "crooks" etc but specificially, what bad...

The above poster was commenting on his observation of "bulk transactions" on hershey final universe stocks. I've seen this issue before myself with the IB/QT combination. When I see what I think is a bulk transation, I do a "clear all data" and do a back-fill. Quite often the bulk trans...

Dang, you guys are right. My culling program uses average daily volume from yahoo finance data query strings. But the average daily volume on the actual quote web page for LQDT shows 167K. It's a data problem at yahoo apparently. From now on I'll have to be sure to double check these...

LQDT came up on my scan for new Final Universe candidates. It does have rank, but the volume is just above the minimum of 200K/day. The float numbers from yahoo and msn are 25,817,000 and 7,831,600 resp which are vastly different but still within the nominal range. This stock trades on...

Have Music AUTO turn OFF when news announces from diff source???

This is only my opinion, but I wouldn't do anything on my trading computer except trade. No chatting, no music, no videos, no games. If any one of those activities caused a distraction or a computer crash, you could lose money.

GROW looked promising with its volume "perkiness". I didn't bite because of its proximity to the upper bound of the up-sloping channel on the daily. In retrospect, I looked at the 5 minute chart and saw that even though volume looked good, the MACD histogram and stoch didn't agree. XING...

LOL, I just happened to be long FSL from a MOT spin-off (employee stock purchase plan) Unbelievably it gapped up almost 20% this morning, so I got the hell out with an fantastic wind fall. There were rumors of a take-over of some sort. Off-topic as far as Hershey stocks are concerned, but...
