how do you keep emotions out of trading?

Trade with a system and a partner. After you set up a trade give it to your partner to manage and exit at predetermined levels. It's much easier managing a trade someone else set up than the one your own ego did.

Writing naked calls in inversely related markets

I've used this strategy somewhat using the dollar and the grains. I can never recommend truly "naked" strategies as any trade that involves catastrophic risk does not sit well with me. I will however sell ratio spreads and credit spreads in inversely related markets as income trades with a...

    Corn short

Why not go long gamma if your indecisive. Reports are due out on the 12th of January the 420 straddle in march corn is relatively cheap with low volatility currently. Or buy 2 ATM calls in march corn and short a futures contract.

    Orange Juice

So is the OJ rally coming to an end? Reports it takes 277 oranges not 240 this year to fill a box as greening has shrunk the harvest. Jan Juice at 127. Where is the seasonal sell off?

    Grain spreads

I've been in and out of this spread. Bot some corn mid week at 380 sold today at 403. Was long 380 puts as a hedge. I think it is about time for WH fundamentals to pick up some bullish news. Sitting long WH from 561 long 550 puts as hedge.

Are Agriculture Futures a good idea for a beginner?

I'd save more money will you have around $20,000 and in the meantime read, study, watch, read, study, watch, read, study, watch and so on and so on. or trade mini ags and be sucked dry by commissions.

    spreading WN and KCWN

@ George Thanks for your comments and advice. I'm looking to put the spread on this week. We'll see what happens. I've heard the Ukranian wheat harvest is smaller than expected.

    spreading WN and KCWN

I'm looking for some feedback on a spread idea. With the weather delaying the harvest and soft red wheat likely to loose acreage I'm thinking of buying WN in Chicago and selling KCWN against it. To those seasoned grain traders out there anyone remember what happened to this spread the last...

How do you deal with being wealthy or suddenly having lots of money?

noble intent. I'm hoping to use my wealth to fund inner city catholic schools k-12. Staff them with the best teachers, make them green, integrate urban farming with them, catholic worker houses etc. Probably a little pie in the sky i'd say but something i've been planning for quite a while.

    Gartman Video

Well written response. There are too many prospective traders who are out there searching for the mythical trading program. The one that requires small beginning capital, little work, yet at the same time provides amazing returns. Like day trading the e-mimi with a 2k account and striking it...

    OJ Calls

The bid ask spread on most soft options is wider than the grains. I bot these calls earlier in the week at 950 against short futures @ 115.00 as I put on some synthetic puts. The quote from the floor was 900 - 1000. the 100 point spread was actually pretty good for an OJ call.

    Gartman Video

That's an interesting comment on his take on the copper market and being so far off the spot month. Any other charlatans out there? I've seen a guy named James Cordier on television a few times. His site is all about option selling and touts his trading services yet he charges $69 per round...

Cotton - Front month very light volume

August and Sep beans are often referred to as the bastard months because they are in the middle of the old crop and new crop beans. I magint the October Cotton is similar.

    AUG ZS 13 calls @ 13

The up side bias in option pricing currently in the August beans is due to tight ending stocks in old crop beans. The beans in the ground now are the Nov contract. Tomorrow is the acreage report in grains. We'll see how many acres have gone from corn to soy due to the wet spring. You're...

    Black Swan

I've been trading primarily selling strategies using ratio spreads for three years now with decent results. Using 1:2 to begin positions allow a defense move of converting the losing directional trade into a winner buy buying in the 1 naked option and creating a long bull or or bear spread to...

How do I get a "local"?

I wonder why they prefer the phone. The written record is much clearer and really allows to see who made the mistake if something goes screwy. Then again I suppose someone else could type on your IM account if it was hacked or something. But the odds of a hacker knowing the mechanics of...

How do I get a "local"?

I only noticed it about a month ago. I see it there sometimes 30 minutes before my IB IM's me about the fill.
