Seeking opinion from experienced traders

1130 - 200 or so is a deadish zone. breakouts don't work as much, stocks which have run a lot often revert back in, and there's more consolidation during that timeframe. lower your size and wait for better setups during that time.

Was anyone here trading in the late 90s?

yeah, i read harvey's book about it years ago...and remember that a stock like CMRC might have a 2 or 3 point *spread*. that wasn't one of those biotechs, but same principle...

Was anyone here trading in the late 90s?

yes, used datek and e-trade when i started, may have taken on ameritrade early on? my first direct access broker was ab watley, and that's how i first saw realtick. not a soes bandit, didn't know about it until it had been closed up...

Grinding it out, day after day

i agree with this - when i've helped people along, as a very base, they MUST know about trend trading. it's easier to do, easier to teach, important to know (because so many places / traders do that already), and more forgiving of mistakes. counter-trend requires discipline to get out fast...

Grinding it out, day after day

i can sympathize with your pain on MXB, if i hadn't decided to play basketball that afternoon, i might have gone in it as well. one thing i've noticed, on some of the trades that are pure RTM trades, is when they go wrong, they can eat up several 'good' trades. in hindsight, it's real easy...

    Characteristics of a Successful Trader

one of the traits which i've noticed in others (and myself) is a seeming contradiction: an ability not to care about money lost, yet to always be cognizant that lots of money can be lost if the the entries and exits aren't properly monitored. if i enter a trade and am trading as i should...

    New York Traders Expo 2010

not going this year...maybe i'll go down next year. if i do, would be good to hook up with other (individual) traders next year, since i'm past the point where the presenters or vendors would do much for me.

genesis / laser and sweeping all bids/offers?

i've had a problem with some routing on genesis laser, and i'm hoping someone here might be able to offer a solution. basically, the SMART option on laser isn't the same as the SMART option in most other sites. i'm looking to sweep all bids (or offers), including hiddens, up to my...

    Characteristics of a Successful Trader

thanks, eric, for starting this thread long ago. i posted a comment to it at some point but saw this when i was checking for some old ideas, and much of it rings true. hopefully others can learn from it as well.

Grinding it out, day after day

lescor's returns are not only plausible, but highly likely, given the contents of his posts. he's been a valuable poster to the ET community. come back when you learn about slippage, illiquidity / becoming the market, and other problems that crop up with actual traders once they've crossed...

from: a journalist to: fund managers

question 1: Why did the U.S. stock market stage a comeback on Friday around 2 pm EST to end positive for the day? i'm not a fund manager. i am a full-time trader. you say "no technical analysis". well, then you won't like the answer given, but technical stuff is the reason many...

To Traders who are actually profitable

here, i'll give you a chunk of my system. buy/sell tight consolidation breakouts or retracements of strong/weak stocks intraday. sell/ buy stocks that are really far stretched up / down intraday. now, if you use it, you'll probably go belly-up, and blow out either holding a 'strong'...

    NoDoji's Day Trading Log

Gotta agree with the posters above. Saw year jrnl yesterday and thought 3 min bars is flirting with danger. You know the basics and some rules only learned by lots of screen time (don't enter a trade on the 4th move u or down) so go with a timeframe where you can do well. 5 min bars on huge...
