    Question about risk/reward

Welcome to the world of options, get ready for a never ending supply of derivatives knowledge. Keep asking questions and keep studying. Also, play around with your strike selection. If you want a bull put and your risk/reward isn't optimal then don't choose those strikes. For example lets...

Wayyyyy better than rent prices out here in Hawaii... $1,300 gets you a very small studio (although its right next to a gorgeous beach)... I guess its all about location.

How many traders take screenshots of their charts?

The real question would be, why would a trader take a screen shot of his charts? My reason is to save time, frozen.. so I can go back and look at my analysis prior to the imminent move.

    Backtesting is useless

simple, look at your P/L of course that’s after the fact, but might as well allocate a small sum of percentage of capital to test a new strategy you have hope in.. for those that don’t know how to backtest yet (like me)

    Backtesting is useless

not sure what you mean here At? earnings management? Price pinning? are you saying because companies hit EPS down to the dollar and cent this makes the earnings announcement market maker move (ATMF straddle) “predictable”? I’ve traded many earnings but to say its predictable do you mean the...

Analysis based on IV Ratio (Volatility Skew)

Hey gowthamn, when you say the "IV ratio between 50 delta and 25 delta" you mean to divide the IV% of the 50Delta calls/puts by the 25Delta call/puts? And whatever numeric this is determines your performance of profitability? Can you explain more on this?

The Beauty of Options - Portfolio Insurance at a Discount

This post really gets ones pondering. I wonder often if consuming too much øptionality knowledge could hurt ones abilities to actually trade? A lot of people get caught up in 7th moment distributions but can't mint coinage. Maybe less is more, for some? I guess it all depends. You have desty...

of course if you word it that way it sounds horrible.. but what if those layers of positions are only redundant “x%” of the time? Also the commission argument is another red herring.

    Fooled by randomness by Nassim

doubt it man... if you bought DOTM options in March you’d be out of luck.. entry definitely has importance, as well as exit. They both play a big part. I’m thinking buying DOTM options at the top of a bull run is ideal, but even then idk I don’t trade this way

Figure out how far away from the money a 6 sigma move will occur +/- then buy the according strikes

    Fooled by randomness by Nassim

timing comes from order entry.. even for DOTM options. You can’t just blindly buy them, as you’ll bleed continuously. There’s a way these guys finance these options via short premium as well so it’s not solely long DOTM strikes. But at the same time I’ve never traded this way and most likely...

    Fooled by randomness by Nassim

no.. timing has nothing to do with it.. that’s the whole point of buying DOTM options lol.. The hardest part is trading a negative skew strategy. Mentally most humans can’t take the consistent losses, eventually waiting for that 6 sigma move that collapses the world.
