I used to believe that market behavior and price activity was the result of the psychology of human beings.....however there appears to be something else going on that is a major cause of price movement and not related to human behavior...I actually think it's more related to the natural laws of...

What’s an acceptable max DD for a strategy?

it's very dangerous and scary to watch your account drop 25% and then have the balls to pull the trigger on the next trade....I wouldn't do it be realistic...I would only encourage tolerating a 25% drawdown if you've seen your system recover from such 25%+ drawdowns at a minimum of 30 times...

Entries statistically significant compared to random backtested entries?

The pattern itself is probably not that important as I believe that I could take many different patterns (elliott wave, harmonics, five waves, classic edwards and magees, peter L brandt's patterns, you name it - i'm just pulling these off the top of my head...I don't use any of these) and make...

Entries statistically significant compared to random backtested entries?

I personally run away from systems like the plague that don't have at least a 2-to-1 win/loss ratio and around 50% winners give or take a few points...this is my drop dead minimum ...and don't say it can't be done because I trade for a living and do it almost everyday...intraday timeframes...

Entries statistically significant compared to random backtested entries?

lack of robustness across markets is a dead giveway for overfit, nine times out of ten, particularly if the model is based on some form of price pattern recognition.

Entries statistically significant compared to random backtested entries?

survivorship bias?....ok now run your test for a different but equal time period.....oooh say....1999 to 2004 and tell me what you come up with. I'd be willing to bet the house that it blows up.

Entries statistically significant compared to random backtested entries?

Have you ever traded with real money? I'm assuming you haven't or else your experience would clearly tell you that marginally profitable strategies never hold up in the real world and the more trades you examine the more the performance of the system will degrade. I looked at that paper...
