Kicking, have you considered doing options on the QQQs?

I like the idea of trading the QQQs but I'm not sure about what to use as an indicator. Today I charted my basket of "Hot" Nasdaq techs and watched the QQQ follow them up and down. It was easy on paper. ;)

Maybe it's just an IB thing? I was told that you can only trade options in a margin account. No margin accounts less than 25K therefore no options. Maybe Def can tell me the truth about it? You there Def?

At IB you can only trade options in a margin account. So if someone has less than 25K in their account their account will be converted to a cash account and they can not trade options either. Correct? This all sucks!

Can indexes( qqq etc ) be traded w/o regard to the new SEC rules? Thanks

Praetorian2, thank you for the details. OK Newbies... you know how to do it now. Start with paper, go to small shares when you are correct 90% or so. Good luck.

Def, if one trades the 4th time in 5 days and the last trade returns the accout to 100% cash, can the "offender" request that account be closed and will IB issue a check for the account at that time? Or will IB hold the cash for 90 days?

Starting out trading can be very consfusing. I think new traders need to follow 1 or 2 stocks for a month or so before adding any others to their basket. Just my opinion. The reason for this thread is to put in ONE LOCATION stocks which, in the opinion of others , are good stocks for new...

Some will likely just put their money elsewhere. The market will lose. Why would anyone allow their account to be tied up for 90 days? If I got down close to 25 I'd put it in something else. Options is one option. I can hear 'em now; "where did the volume go?"

I'm trying to get a set routine down that I follow to start every trading day. It goes something like this: 9:00 PM Check Briefing.com for late stock news and Island.com to see the effect of the news on after hours trading. Update Support and Resistance points for stocks in my basket...
