    Grow: Why The Attraction?

Its called a squeeze. Currently there are 1.78 million shares short, with a publicly traded float of just 6.56 million. You can check the short interest here: http://www.nasdaqtrader.com/asp/short_interest.asp

15-20% interest rate in early 80's

And if you calculate how much the USD has depreciated between then and now, houses today probably cost about the same if measured in 1980 purchasing power.

c++ or java for trading app development

All modern operating systems support some sort of memory mapped I/O. Regardless of programming language, nothing will be faster than letting the operating system handle all file I/O in the kernel.

Bloomberg special on Naked Short Selling

Sheeesh calm down everybody. We are all (supposed to be) traders. When this gets enough publicity (and the truth ALWAYS eventually gets out), the SEC will be forced to start doing their jobs and enforcing the laws. The squeeze resulting from stocks with more than 100% of the float short will...

Lots of wash sales for non MTM traders a problem?

When I used to trade stocks, I understood that wash sales only affect your total tax bill if they straddle the 31 days that includes the end of the (tax) year. At all other times, it only affected your basis, not your P&L. If you are paying quarterly estimated tax payments, you would also...

Bloomberg special on Naked Short Selling

Actually the only way for it to remain risk free is if the SEC continues to turn a blind eye and only selectively enforces their own laws.

Is emini Russell 200 best mini to trade???

My guess is that some of the black-box volatility killers got really hurt with the increase in volatility and have been switched off until the markets cool down enough for them to win again.

IB stmt over expiry weekend wrong?

In the 6 years that I have had an account at IB, it has been like this every single options expiration cycle. In fact, when you asked this question in April 2006, I told you how it worked then. http://www.interactivebrokers.com/cgi-bin/discus/board-auth.pl?file=/9966/34869.html

Bloomberg special on Naked Short Selling

Using basic economic theory, if there is infinite supply, then the correct price is zero. The only reason that there is infinite supply is that the thieves are gaming the system and the regulators are looking the other way.

    "Classic" IB tech support

Its not a "mistake". The data feed is designed to update a grid. If anything, people trying to turn a sampled feed into a T&S feed are the ones making a "mistake".

IB waaay behind on tech support?

Try a different brand of router. If TWS works fine with a direct connection but falls over with the router connected, then I would start looking there.

Perhaps previous administrations made deals where increased immigration quotas were promised in exchange for access to oil and resources etc.

Just calculate the screen size by multiplying the width by the height. 2x17" will have more screen area (number of pixels) than 1x19" or 1x22"

    Hyper inflation

Bad money always drives out good money. If there was one country that backed its money with something tangible, then all the other countries would just print up whatever they needed to buy the real money. That is the real legacy that Nixon left us.
