46.3 million Americans without health insurance

If you remove the profit factor from providing for the cost of health care you remove the taking on risk element of the system and by the way, the health companies were not forced to accept the risk of someone else getting cancer and costing them a million dollars. They chose that line...

US Citizens Starting To Rebel Against Wall Street

Then I bite my tongue and say you're a rare breed. Good for you. I got an uncle just like you. No TV, don't even own a car. He takes the bus. Spends most of his time walking miles and miles each day. He's never been sick a day in his life and probably doesn't even have a CC. Indeed, most...

US Citizens Starting To Rebel Against Wall Street

I find this very hard to believe unless you were born into wealth. At age 18 you didn't ever have your muffler fall off your car or see your wheel fly to the side of the curb because it fell off your car while you're driving down the road because all you could afford was a beater? Your furnace...

US Citizens Starting To Rebel Against Wall Street

I agree but she's gonna be screwed for a long time. She won't be able to get a job anywhere with that on her credit rating. She doesn't get away from this without consequences but I do applaud her for giving BofA the middle finger.

US Citizens Starting To Rebel Against Wall Street

Another thing....if you decide to stop paying or you lose your job and you can't pay your credit score will obviously tank and that will affect your ability to get another job. About 50% of employers nowadays run credit checks as part of a background check. If your score is below X you ain't...

US Citizens Starting To Rebel Against Wall Street

The same thing happened to me. I had 1.99% for life and it turned into 13.99%. My credit score is 845. I paid the bugger off. Don't ever take on debt you can't afford to pay off with 1 payment. Fuck BofA.

They were dancing in the streets and drinking in the bars to celebrate the election of the Mighty One. My wife cried when he was elected. I actually cried to but for a different reason LOL

Large US Federal deficit might be almost irreversible

and...if a foreign country won't buy the US's debt any longer where does the money come from if tax payers can't pay? We're seeing the answer to that already -- from the Fed. The Fed can also expand its balance sheet into infinity. That is another reason the Fed will never be audited or...

Large US Federal deficit might be almost irreversible

I don't think you guys have actually thought this thru. Since when does a government check bounce? A government check doesn't represent actual money. It's just a credit(s) system. When the old folks get their Social Security their accounts don't actually increase by 1000 dollars and the...

transaction tax mathematics and end of day trading

Definitely! They have their lawyers working on it already. If you follow the history of other countries who did this there was always some method of avoiding the tax, such as trading "off-exchange." Joe Trader will not have access to that kind of execution. GS will not pay a dime toward this...

transaction tax mathematics and end of day trading

The original bill included all derivatives in the tax and you have to pay the tax on the FULL contract amount. You buy one contract at 1000 and they will tax you on $50,000.

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

Scroll down to page 5. Seems most countries have a way to avoid the tax. Many countries have removed theirs in recent years http://www.madhyam.org.in/admin/tender/Equitable%20Equity.PDF

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

That's total nonsense. How did the markets function before the internet -- before day trading was even any kind of activity? The absense of liquidity does not change the value of anything. Bargain hunters will step in at lower prices and if they fall faster they will simply buy sooner. There...

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

I think it was Switzerland (?) who saw something like a 35% drop in investment capital once they passed their tax. They eventually had to withdraw it, to the best of my recollection. Hopefully the US has been paying attention but deperation for tax revenue can cause you to do stupid things.

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

They will initially sell this as a tax on GS and the public will buy it. The GS exemptions will come a little later, most likely though accounting trickery or some loophole in the law. CNBC is pumping this as a tax on GS. That is something the public will buy. Once it's on the books and they...

Funny! Jack Welch is probably in a boardroom with Obama and Co. drawing up the details and determining a launch date. You didn't actually think CNBC was an "independent" news station, did you?

This would be one of the quickest ways for Obama to increase his approval rating. "We're gonna get those....those dam day traders. The ones who caused the market volatility in the fall of 2008. They were all selling short and we'll stop that with a tax!" It comes down to...
